Not a town, but Hilton Head island is gorgeous! So is Tybee Island right outside of Savannah. :)
Just cities, or small towns as well? My parents grew up (and met, and fell in love) in Washington, Georgia, which has a gorgeous historic district. Tons of antebellum homes to admire and tour if they're open. It was the first town or city to be named after George Washington (in 1780).
Well, I'll explain that right now we're planning on getting married in Rhode Island in March. But thinking about the weather, it's a big risk to take for it not to be rainy. So we're looking into gorgeous small towns closer to home with bed and breakfasts with nice courtyards for a small wedding. So far there's one in Amelia Island we do love but we're just exploring options before we go further. I've started to check out Tybee Island and Hilton Head and I will check out Washington, Georgia next!
bump for more ideas
Monticello/Madison GA, Senoia, GA (I don't know about venues though), there are beautiful historic homes in Eufala, AL but again, I don't know about venues. The Partridge Inn in Augusta GA used to be wonderful although I haven't been there for years. Hmm...I've got to think a little more about this.
If it helps to see what we're looking for, this is our top contender so far

We don't anticipate much more than 20-30 guests and we're thinking it'll be a little less than 20
Anyone else? We're still looking
Wilmington, North Carolina! It's my hometown. Beach, historic downtown on the river, lots of great restaurants and shopping, horse drawn carriage rides, and a battleship. Plus, very near to Bald Head Island...a small island you can take a ferry to, and then drive golf carts around it (no cars!).
St. Simons Island, Georgia; New Bern, North Carolina; St. Augustine, Florida; Charleston, South Carolina (a bigger city of course, but beautiful)
Dahlonega, GA. It's a former gold mining town, with a pretty little square in the north GA mountains. Also, Abbeville, SC. My friends lived there for awhile, and it was pretty adorable. Very small.
St. Augustine, FL. Love this town! Very romantic, historic, Spanish vibe there. (Although, I do lvoe Savannah, GA too!)
Thanks everyone! I think we're going to go with Charleston (It's an hour to an hour and a half away from where we are) and take a mini-moon to Savannah afterward. And we'll definitely make a point to go to Amelia Island/St. Augustine in the future.
Charleston is my pick but if you're looking for something smaller, a little more quaint, you should look at Beaufort, SC.
St. Simons Island and Jekyll Island are beautiful as well. St. Augustine, FL.

We're trying to come up with a list of gorgeous towns in the Southeastern US with a historic feel. We've already looked at Savannah, Charleston, and Amelia Island, Florida. Any other suggestions?
