None.  I think voting with your conscience is better than sticking to one party.

I haven't voted yet but when I do I won't be sticking to one party.  I think I am split pretty evenly between democrats and republicans.

i can't vote because i'm only a resident alien. however, i definitely do follow politics and will be voting as soon as i'm naturalized next year :) i'm a split ticket, but tend to be a conservative democrat... doesn't align very well with DH who's a straight ticket republican! :P

    we make it work.

I voted Anti-Incumbent, which just so happened to be mostly republican.  IMHO, my state needs a shake up:)

I'm probably best described, like @missjyc:, as a conservative democrat but I have no problem voting for other parties if I like that candidate better.

@missjyc: I'm a dual citizen and try to do the absentee voting in my home country as well. I vote for social democrats there also but sadly the religious right always wins. I was really excited about voting here my first time after I got naturalized, it's a pretty cool feeling.

I vote Democrat. I hate myself for this but I am a straight party voter HOWEVER, if I don't recognize the name (e.g., Civil Court Judge for District 1), I don't vote at all. I wouldn't vote for that person JUST because he/she is a Republican.

I think the Hive is a bit more liberal than conservative. However, I sometimes forget it because their way of thinking jives with mine too and some of them are very inspiring. I'm talking to you KLP *something something* with the beautiful wedding dress Smile

@TinyTina: Honestly, the rent really is too damn high!!

I will split my vote between Dems and “other” (Independent and Greens). Even though I don’t particularly love some of the individuals running, I support the party platform that they are a part of and support (specifically: pro-choice and pro-SSM). Those social issues take precedence for me in any vote.

The "Rent is too damn high!" guy cracks me up!

@TinyTina: I've heard it leans left too, but I wanted to see what was going on with this particular election.

And just to clarify, I definitely agree re: voting with your conscience, and I've voted both ways - I'm just wondering if people leaned one way or the other in this particular election.

Full disclosure, I'd describe myself as a moderate Democrat. FI is a moderate Republican. We actually find it very easy, as our motto goes something like: "You have your vote, I have mine, and we're probably not going to sway each other."

We discuss issues but never really get heated, because we're both pretty close to center and can see each other's points.

For me, voting Democrat IS voting my conscience, except in very very rare circumstances.

I voted my conscious, which was pretty much Democrat all the way across.  Although if the same candidate is running on multiple party lines (running as both a Democrat and as a Working Famlies Party candidate for example), I'll vote for the candidate under the lesser known party to help out that party.

THE RENT IS TOO DAMN HIGH! He would have gotten my vote if I lived there. :D

Otherwise I voted mostly Democrat with one Libertarian and one Republican.

Okay I'm lost/living under a rock... what does "the rent is too damn high" mean??

my beliefs align most closely with socialism but I don't see the point in voting for (the rare occasional) socialist candidate because I know they aren't going to win. Sad as it is, it always comes down to democrat vs. republican and democrats are closer to my side than republicans. Plus I can't stand the moral majority stuff, so that'd turn me off any republican candidate asap.

I vote Democrat. Although, this election I'm voting just on our governor & one prop. I don't have an informed decision on anyone or anything else so I'm not going to vote randomly.

Democrat. I have a bleeding dislike for the Republican party having grown up in TX. But, I definitely overeducate myself on the candidates before voting! Blind voting is just as dangerous as voting for people you disagree with!

@CorgiTales: google it for some YouTube hilarity. Jimmy McMillan is an independent in the NY governor's race running as "the rent is too damn high" party. he totally dominated the debate. best lines:

Moderator: What skille will you bring to Albany?
    JM: My ninja skills

Moderator: What is your stance on gay marriage?
JM: You wanna marry a shoe? I'll marry you to a shoe!

I'm not registered with either party but I vote down the party line as a Democrat. I keep myself open as I have voted for others in the past, and just in case there's a dem I really, really do not agree with, I'll venture elsewhere. Pretty much though, the Democratic party speaks to my conscience and I vote on primarily social issues as opposed to financial.

@CorgiTales: yup, on the ballot. officially his party name is actually Rent is 2 Damn High. with the number 2. priceless.

i'd love to vote for him if it wasn't such a waste of a vote. but he has certainly lent an amusing note to the governor's race here. not that palladino hasn't been good for a laugh too...

I would totally vote for anyone who would marry you to a shoe.  :-)

I voted based on issues, not parties.  I HATE the party system.  I find them both too extreme, and neither really fits my own political leanings.  Which usually means a lot more forethought before I vote.  I voted two weeks ago.  :-)  I'm an absentee, teehee!
