I have been obsessing over the Monique Lhuillier Sunday Rose (first dress that I attach to this post) but I’d feel really bad of expending all that money (more than $7K I think), I just can’t justify it. Haven’t even been able to try it on since there’s no store that carries it in my area, and I’m thinking it’s even better this way! So anyway, today I tried on a dress that is way way cheaper than my dream dress and it kind of looks like it, but not quite… and I think I kind of feel in love!! Which happened after trying 80 dresses that I hated, some more, some less, but in general didn't like and I was starting to freak out! So anyway this dress literally took my breath away: it’s the Allure C157. I really love it and I’m thinking of buying it (actually even left a small symbolic deposit because I was so excited!). Then I came back home and saw the pics and thought: I love it but, is it modern enough? Isn’t it a bit corny? Does it look elegant enough? I keep going back to the Sunday Rose and thinking: damn, how gorgeous!

I have more than twice the budget than what the C157 costs and was planning on expending more so I guess in a weird way the cost is bothering me, I'm crazy! My mom told me: you mean you would buy it more happily if it was the same dress but costed more? I felt like an idiot! I kind of do :S

I don’t know what to do, I literally couldn’t eat tonight and I'm sweating, I’m so nervous, help me bees! Do you think this is my dress? Does it look good on me and my body type (pear-shaped)? I want to look very elegant that day, and also classic and modern at the same time (I know) I thought the Sunday accomplished all that… and actually I thought the 157 did too but now I guess I just need honest opinions! Ok I’m gonna shut up now and let you talk. THANKS!

"and I think I kind of feel in love!!...this dress literally took my breath away: it’s the Allure C157."

Your words--shouldn't that tell you everything? Go with your heart--stop mucking everything up with your head.

(And besides, look at it this way: if that dress is $1K and you can afford $2K (or even if it's just $1K cheaper than Lhullier), then you could buy yourself: a pair of Louboutins AND a pretty veil; a blingier wedding ring; a new fall wardrobe; an iPad, a Wii, and like, 200 apps)

    <---Material girl? Occasionally :)

I don't want to offend in anyway...But I like the dress you tried on much more then your "dream dress".

It really does look perfect on you!

I think it accompishes everything you said you wanted!

And why would we argue with a reasonable price tag (no one has to know what you paid)! ;-)

    Congrats on your dress!

@JennyW1: you're right Jenny, thanks for posting. I should listen to my heart, it's great advice, it's just so hard to commit to a dress, damn it! In general I'm indecisive and I don't want to be suffering the rest of the year having second thoughts! I need validation I think, and honest opinions that tell me what they think about how it looks!

I love the allure!  And it has a similar feel to the Sunday Rose.  I actually saw another bride wearing the Sunday Rose when I was dress shopping, and while it's a gorgeous dress I don't think it's any better than the allure you have on.  You look amazing!

I also love the second dress much more.  It suits you to a tea and accents your great figure.  You are wearing the second dress, I would think you would get lost in the first dress, wear you as they say.

i think the 2nd dress is much prettier and looks great on you! and if you have all that extra budget put it somehwere else where you would have loved to spend more, but didn't have it(ie. photographer, flowers, etc).

The Allure dress captures the spirit of the original and it looks absolutely stunning on you. It is your dress. Just be happy you could find the perfect dress and still have money left over. Imagine what other wedding day details you could use that for!

That dress is beautiful on you! In the end, nobody will know the price and you'll either get to save money or put it towards something else. I'm one of those people who couldn't imagine spending all of our savings on a dress you'll only wear for a few hours, so I think it's great you found a good deal!

I love both the dresses you found - but my first reaction when I saw the allure dress was to think "that is a budget dress?!" it looks absolutely amazing. If I saw that dress the details make it look like at least a couple thou :) So, if it's the cost that's bothering you, that is my 2cents about it.

Also, I didn't budget alterations, hair pieces, shoes, etc in my wedding dress budget and wish I had. I would have LOVED to get a loubs or some of these other $$$ shoes I saw while looking. Save on your dress and splurge on a great clutch or shoes :)

Thanks so much for your comments bees!! I'm definitily feeling more and more convinced as I read them, and everytime I see the pics I like it more.

From my friends I've gotten great reactions, the bad comment I've gotten (and from 2 differente friends) was:

    - The flowers in the skirt are not enough and it seems like there are positioned in a way that makes it seem like some flowers are missing

I don't agree actually because I think that with more flowers the dress would look extremely busy. The Monique gets away with it because it's plain in the breast area. I think those 2 friends had in mind the Monique skirt (just like I did) and that's why they thought something was missing.

My two cents - Would you be as in love with the Sunday Rose dress if it wasn't a Monique? Sometimes it's easy to get dazzled by the designer name. No offense to anyone wearing it, and I get that it's a couture dress that's maybe above my fashion sense, but that and another popular Vera Wang dress always look to me like shredded tissue paper. The Allure dress is on the other hand is definitely more beautiful than the price tag suggests. I've tried it on in a salon that was carrying it along much more expensive designer dresses, and it did not look out of place at all. In fact it was one of the few that I was tempted by. The only potential downside? The affordability plus beauty makes it a very popular dress. I've seen it on 4 Bees already within the last few months. If you're not concerned about that, I would go for it.

I think if it took your breath away, that's a pretty darn good sign! :-) Allure gowns are really well-made and beautiful, and that one looks AMAZING on you! The sweetheart neckline looks great and your waist looks itty-bitty! Admittedly, I'm not a fashionista (although I liked some of the Monique Lhullier lace gowns), but I think the Allure gown is prettier and less "busy" than the super-expensive Monique one (and no offense to Monique brides, just a personal preference on these two). And as someone else said...think of all you'll be able to do with the difference that you would've spent!

    Just my two cents!

I think the Allure is just as beautiful if not more so than the ML.  I wouldn't dwell on the price/brand.  Get the dress you love and feel great in.  It is the look and feel that matter, not the price.

Oh my dear bees, you girls are amazing on taking the time to comment. I was reading your comments aloud to my mom and trying to translate because she only speaks Spanish and she was amazed at the community that we have formed here! Feel so happy to have you!

So I'm thinking I'm going to go ahead and buy the dress tomorrow evening after work, OMG, how difficult is this for an indecisive gal!! But damn it, I love it, and I can of course use the extra money that I'll save, so many expenses right now! And @meliss, you hit the nail on the head: guess what's bothering me might not be the price by itself as much as the popularity that the dress might have given the beaty together with affordability, I'm from Mexico and over here is only about to be presented on the runway so I'm freaking out about seeing it in the social section of the local newspaper weekend after weekend. A friend told me to remember that as beautiful and affordable that it can be, it won't suit all body types and guess she's right, she's apple-shaped so similar dresses don't do her any justice and she looks way bigger than she is in princess dresses.

My mom just gave me and idea, she said: "why don't you tell your friends to let you know about other similar dresses that are like the Sunday Rose and like the Allure that they know about so you can at least consider them?". Thought it was a good idea, since so far whatever I've liked in pics I'd like in myself and viceversa.

Thanks for all your honest comments ladies, you're great!

Aww, my dress! I didn't shed a tear when I first tried her on, but the butterflies I got in my stomach were a good indication that I had found "the one". That and the fact that my bridesmaid got super giddy on me, lol. The only concern I have is the amount it's going to cost me to get it altered seeing I'm a petite lil' mexican, lol.

If you have any doubts, I'd make sure to try on a couple other dresses that have similar qualities - if you find yourself going back to this one, GO FOR IT! You know it looks lovely. Plus, your boobies fill it in a lot nicer than I do, haha! Your curves will look nice in a variety of dresses, so that's a plus!

Here are some other designers that I was looking into but didn't have the $$$$

I love this dress also and when I went to try it on the shop only had it in a size 18 and I am a size 6. I put it on and wanted to love it but it was so heavy it was turnign me off. I also though maybe it was too puffy, so they took the skirt off of me and i did feel better about it.

I love the pics of you in it! I am going to try another shop and try it on in my size and see how it feels. This dress to me is unique and absolutely stunning. It gives a bride a real appearence of individuality and romance I think. You should buy it you look amazing in it!!
