Just wanted to let you know you’re not alone!  I rowed for 7 seasons in high school and was a cocksain for a year in college (I’m unofficially two inches too short to row division one…)  I definitely miss the sport now and really miss the great workouts and being in such great shape. My times are very very pitiful compared to what they once were (I think my old 5k splits are still better then by current 2k ones, grr) but I agree that the overall workout you get from it is so amazing it really doesn’t matter all that much.  By the way, do you find it as frustrating as I do to watch people misuse the erg in the gym?!

The erg definitely does the most for my core but I’m always feel like my biceps are always a little too eager to pump up as well so that, combined with back injuries (I’m a former over extender) means I’m always trying to limit my erg time to a few times a week and I run or use the elliptical for the rest of the time.  Good luck with your goal with the 5ks, I’m sure you’ll get fantastic results from it!

lunchtime workout of 45minutes on the elliptical today for me

I like to row (when I was at a gym that had a rower) but I get bored and don’t last long. I wish my apartment complex gym would get a rower!

hello! i am also an ex rower and i am hoping to get back into the sport after a… 5 year hiatus (holy cow!). i have always hated the erg though. ugh. i can try to make a similar committment to 5k’s, let’s keep eachother motivated!!

oh, and i also hate seeing people misuse the erg at the gym!! some people look like they’re going to seriously injure themselfs, it makes me nervous lol.

I love this idea! I miss rowing so so so much. πŸ™

It’s scary to think about getting back on the erg…I won’t be able to for another three weeks, when school starts again. Until then, it’s running running running, with a mix of push-ups and sit-ups thrown in. Yay for Army PT! Haha.

I’ve never rowed before but my gym has a rowing machine and I’ve always wanted to try it.  Can you ladies give me some tips to start out?  I am a runner normally (training for a marathon right now) and would love a different cross-training activity besides swimming.  Thanks!  πŸ™‚
