I've heard registries can take a while, so give yourself a bit of time before you send out your invites - that way they'll be ready when people want to start buying you things!
I've also heard it's always good to have at least one brick and mortar (i.e. not online) store available, in case some of your guests prefer not to shop online. You can create the registries online at a lot of b&m stores though.
I have done 2. I got them set up before christmas and told everyone that was our christmas lists as well. The 2 stores that I have used are both online as well as have several locations in missouri so out guests can shop either way. I would get started on them, at least looking. you can always take stuff off/add new stuff when you want to.
I would probably start yours after your STDs go out. We started getting questions about where we were registered that early. I agree with registering at a store that has locations near where your friends/family are. Target and Bed Bath and Beyond are pretty much nationwide so you won't have that problem if you choose them.

so when should we start our registries? Are most of you creating it online, going to the store to do it, or both? I'm not really sure what we are going to do and dont know how to go about starting it and how soon.
