I don’t get it either.. Didn’t have one, but I have to say, we only had the wedding cake because it was included in our package…

I’m thinking of going Mrs. Pencil’s way and making our own. I’m just not sure yet.

I never really had a desire to have one, so I didn’t.  I didn’t even know what it was until a few months ago.  I don’t think my FI would have really cared or been excited about it anyway.

It’s not a tradition that anyone in our family has ever followed. When I told my fiance about them, he was really insulted by the idea that the main wedding cake is the “bride’s cake.” We’ll just be having one cake.

I’ve never seen one in real life, and I don’t think my fiance really cared if he had one or not.  He’s getting his Lego-shaped cake though, because our baker is making it for $30 🙂

I’ve never been to a wedding with one.  From what I understand, it’s more of a southern thing.  Some of them are really cute though. Maybe I’ll bring the tradition back to Boston with me!

We are having one, but basically so we could incorporate our theme elsewhere. But it turns out it is going to SAVE us money, because for the groom’s cake (a tombstone) we are being charged for a sheet cake and getting a lot more cake for people, whereas the main cake can cost us a little less because the groom’s cake will pick up the slack…

    and we get another flavor.

well it’s definitely a Southern thing..I’ve never been to a wedding without one!!  I lke them because they are always super unique (that I’ve seen), and a very creative testament to the Groom’s personality or a hobby, etc.  Plus, as mentioned before, you get a chance for a different flavor and less cost!

We’re having one. I never heard of it and originally didn’t want one, but apparently its a southern thing that the boy really wants and his mom said she would pay for it so why not!

It’s definitely a southern thing!! I grew up in California and when I moved to Texas is when I started hearing about a grooms cake!! My FH is a Texan so he’s getting his grooms cake for our Southern California wedding!! He won that one ;]

I decided recently that I’m going to turn our “sheet cake” in to a grooms cake. We needed to have a sheet cake anyways, so decided to make it in to something my FI would love.

We didn’t have one.  He doesn’t even really like cake.  We had other desserts in addition to the cake so maybe those were for him.  I donno but really we only had a bite of dessert we were too busy dancing!
