I don’t do much seasonal decorating.  Short term for Hallowe’en, mostly for Christmas, and small amounts for Easter.

Seasonal wreaths seem to be popular around here.  I don’t think the fall decor is too early, parts of the province already had some nasty snow!  I think waiting for September 1st or Labour Day is pretty typical.  Some schools start in August, and they are set up with the fall decor then.

I don’t put stuff up for Christmas until December.  I think it’s respectful to wait until after Remembrance Day.

I usually start with fall decorations end of september. (summer is my favorite so i try to keep summer things out as long as possible lol, we also live in the south so fall doesnt really start until later) I put Christmas decorations out after Thanksgiving.

I love to decorate for the holidays! However, now that all of my totes with my holiday stuff are in the garage on shelves… I have to ask FI to get them down for me. When I lived in my condo, they were in my extra room and easily accessible!

I was planning on doing my Fall stuff this weekend, but need to get some wedding stuff done instead… but we’ll see. Otherwise, Christmas stuff usually goes up right after Thanksgiving. I grew up decorating the tree Thanksgiving night, so I try to get it done soon after so I can enjoy it longer.

We don’t do a huge amount of holiday/seasonal decorating for two reasons:

1. We live in a small apartment that’s already stuffed full of furniture

2. As a small child I was emotionally scarred by my mother’s Christmas decorating.

When we were kids, my mom used to decorated the house from top to bottom for each season. It was mostly inside, but I’m talking a full space rehaul once a month starting September. I remember the earliest she put up the Christmas trees once was Halloween night, after the kids had gone home, and the latest she took them down was the beginning of February. I also remember waking up at 4:00am to Boney M singing Mary’s Boy Child directly into my ear–or, at least, it sounded that way, because she would blast the music so loud it would shake your skull. One Christmas, we had 5 different trees, all completely decorated, one in my bedroom because she didn’t have anywhere else to put it.

She still volunteers to put up our Christmas tree for us each year, lol.  No thanks mom.

krstino1012:  i was just thinking if it was too early to do it at work. one department put up leafs. i think its still early for halloween. but normally i might get my box of decor out the second week in oct of even the 3 week around the 19th. for xmas…. ill kind of start right after thanksgiving. my sister used to have a tradition of putting up the tree the day after thanksgiving. BUT i always felt the tree would die before xmas.. so i wait a little longer to decorate. DHs birthday is the first week of dec so im more decked out in birthday stuff then xmas then. THEN move on to xmas 😉 i cant believe halloween candy is out already!! each year the decor is different depending on the apartment or location. one of our apartments: no one ever visited so i never really felt like decorating much.

I typically don’t start thinking about any sort of holiday decorating/shopping until after my kids’ birthdays, which all thankfully come before the big holiday season starts.  And I cannot think about Christmas until after Thanksgiving.  But it’s each individual to their own.  If you want to decorate for fall now, I don’t think it’s too early… I don’t decorate for fall anymore.  And I might put up a few stuff for Halloween but that lasts about a few days as Halloween isn’t really celebrated the same here.  It’s gotten bigger over the years but still not the same.

I saw Christmas decor up alrady at a few stores and even some stores have started their Christmas layaway program… just so early for me BUT good to get a head start if you want to ‘save’ money.

I hope everyone who puts out Christmas decorations after Thanksgiving is referring to American Thanksgiving!

MrsRevolutionize:  That is so sweet and too funny! Sounds like my mom. She loves the holidays and decorates like crazy. Loves her figurines and Christmas villages and nutcrackers and has to arrange them just so. And she always names the tree every year and calls it by name anytime she references the tree “Henry looks a little thirsty, I better water him!”.

I like putting out fall decorations like pumpkins and colorful autumn leaves on October 1st. Christmas stuff after Thanksgiving in late November.
