Are you getting married on a holiday weekend?  If so, which one and why did you choose that date?

What challenges has this presented to you and what kind of feedback have you gotten from your guests?

We chose a date on Memorial Day weekend because it was all the location still had open that was after graduation for FI (he's a professor).  So far we haven't run into any trouble and some of the out-of-towners are excited about seeing the race, too! In fact, we've gotten good responses - people have an extra day off to travel or regain some of "their" weekend.

A friend of mine is getting married on a holiday weekend - we aren't actually too thrilled about it.  We usually try to get away for the long weekends.  My FH doesn't get a whole lot of time off, so if we stay in town for the wedding, that sort of wastes one of our chances to get away.

She's not a close friend, so if we decide not to attend the wedding, is that rude/selfish?  Sorry to post a question with your question!!!

We're having ours on labor day weekend! I don't think it's a big issue with our guests, no one has mentioned anything about it to us. We were sure to send out save the dates (even though we don't have out of town guests) early so people know before booking their holidays.

This isn't really a "holiday" but I am getting married over Columbus Day weekend. I didn't even realize it until someone mentioned it. However, it works well for me and FI b/c we both have that Monday off - that's one day less I need to take as vacation during my honeymoon week! :)

Also, some people coming from out of town may have off as well and might not have to rush back home on Sunday...who knows?

We chose to have our wedding on Memorial Day weekend precisely because it is a long weekend.  I have lived in Tennessee for the past 3 years and recently moved back to my home town (where my fiance is) but I can't imagine my wedding without my best friends from back east with me!  So, we figured the long weekend will entice our out-of-town guests to come, and may deter some of our local guests who would rather be out on the lake that weekend.  But really, who couldn't use that extra day of the weekend for some relaxing and recovery?? :)

I am getting married over Labor Day weekend. We chose our date because we orginally had a choice of a 6 month engagement or a longer engagement. I wanted more time to plan so that brought us to Summer 2010. From there we chose September because the weather is the best in NE Ohio at that time of year. Labor day weekend worked and just felt right to us.

The only people that have complained are FI's grandparents, but I don't really listen to that because they like to complain about everything. Most people have commented that getting married on a holiday weekend and on a Sunday will allow OOT guests more time to travel to and from the wedding. The flip side of that is that flights may be more expensive for OOT guests. Hotel should be fine since I received a good rate for the room blocks. We sent out our save the date cards with our holiday cards so people could make travel arrangements way in advance.

Another challenge I have discovered is that apparently Labor Day weekend (and maybe holiday weekend weddings in general?) are getting more popular. Our venue has totally booked our venue for that weekend and it's impacting our wedding day timeline.

In general, I love our date and that we are getting married over Labor Day weekend. I am not sure that I would pick a bigger holiday like the 4th of July, Thanksgiving etc for my wedding though!

We're getting married Labor Day weekend. I've not heard any complaints so far. We chose it because we originally wanted to get married on the day we met, but that would mean either getting married on a Wednesday (sept. 1) or waiting until 2012 for it to fall on a weekend again! Under family pressure, we moved our wedding from Wednesday to Friday.

WE're getting married Labor Day weekend Sept 4th, We chose to stick with Saturday because we have a fair amount of friends from out of town and we wanted to spend at least one wedding stress free day with everyone who traveled to see us if they wanted to. Several members of our family requested this date in September over the others because we're having kids at our wedding and this enables everyone to travel and not take the kids out of school as long as they would if it wasn't a holiday weekend. No one at all has mentioned anything negative about it and most everyone is really pleased and has said it was a good idea.
