Haha, you make the funniest poll questions mr. bee. I'm actually neither. Christmas with both (accidentally) and Thanksgiving with neither. We liked it that way but we'll never do it that way again.
Thanksgiving by ourselves in Reno (though we techincally visited his Mom, since she lives in Tahoe, but we NEVER ge tto see her...) and Christmas was a whirlwind of 4 families in 4 days...I don't think we'll be doing that again, From Camarillo to Palmdale to WHittier to San Diego, it was exhausting. Hopefully next year we'll have our own place and be able to do Christmas at our house.
We spent our first Thanksgiving and Christmas together minus our families. I didn't have to work on the actual holidays themselves but had to work the day before and after. With that it was impossible to travel to visit anyone.
And in all honesty...even if I could have had a decent length of time off around the holidays we wouldn't ahve visited anyone still. It was special to me to get to spend our first "official" holidays without anyone else around.![]()
We try really hard to split up the days between both families.
We have it soooo easy for the holidays!
Thanksgiving: My parents always(most years) work in the morning so we can't do dinner til the evening around 7pm so this leaves plenty of time to go up to FIs family dinner and come back. Oh, did I mention I also cook the turkey and most sides for my family? :)
Christmas: I just learned that a lot more Spanish people celebrate Christmas on Christmas Eve at midnight. I thought it was just a Bolivian thing. Anyways, so my fam celebrates the night before. When we were little they MADE us stay up til midnight to open presents, but now we start earlier. We go to FIs fam the next morning.
Conviently my parents and Mr. Sushi's mom only live 10 mintutes away from each other, so we tend to share the holiday and go to both family's house. Which sometimes means eating 2 big meals on the same day.
We switch off- even years Tgiving with his fam and Christmas with mine, odd years Tgiving with mine and Christmas with his. We decided it with a coin toss the first year we decided to spend the holidays together.
My family does Thanksgiving, but my in-laws come over for a bit to eat with us. For Christmas, we used to spend it with the husband's family a couple hours away, but that hasn't happened the past couple years for various reasons like work (he's a firefighter so worked last year, his mom's a nurse so worked this year). So, this year we just ate dinner at his parents after they got off work on Christmas Eve. Then, we had a little time to ourselves Christmas morning before heading off to my godmother's for our Christmas Crap coppino. It's always such crazy times because we usually get invited to so many places and I always just want to crawl under a rock and not come out until all the craziness is over!
Thanksgiving with mine, christmas with his. But I am Jewish so it was a relatively easy decision :)
thanxgivin' and xmas with his fam, in exchange he does WHATEVER i tell him to the entire 'period' of chinese new year (duration of period totally not specified) MUAHAHAHAHAHA
We went to visit with my extended family during Thanksgiving, but had a pre-Thanksgiving the day before with his mom.
All in all we had 6 Christmases - that was a little intense, although I know once we have kids it will probably be worse.
we don't have a set system
However, he actually lives close to his family, so last year we did Thanksgiving here/our house (with my family coming down), and then we went to my parents' (9 hr drive) for Christmas.
