I think my 4month-ish old puppy is constipated. Normally he poops a good 3-4 times per day. Today it’s been 1 small morning poop, but he’s been squating down (like he’s going to pop) a good 3 other times with nothing to come out. And his farts are almost knocking me into a comma. Any ideas of how to help?? Our foster family said initially canned pumpkin…anyone tried that??? Thanks ladies!!

Canned pumpkin is good, adding a little olive oil to food, and also small amounts of dairy can help move things a long too.
Try to survive the fart apocalypse 🙂 And keep walking him to keep things moving!

I’ve heard Karo syrup works as well, but I’d do my due diligence before feeding a puppy anything out of the ordinary.
Sorry about the fart problem!

@Eva Peron: good to know someone else has tried the pumpkin! 🙂 I definitely believe the foster family who had him for a couple weeks (she “swears by it”) but it just seemed odd to me. He definitely gets his fair share of walks as me & Fiance (who’s a teacher and only teaching morning summer school), walk him at least 2-3 times per day. 🙂
@StuporDuck: I never heard of using karo syrup! Thanks for the suggestion, I’ll look into that as well! Thank you!

@MadTownGirl: Do you have any obligatory puppy pics to share ? I’d love to see him!

@MadTownGirl: Canned pumpkin, rice, and chicken broth. You can also add green beans. I would feed for three or four days. I have 4 babies so I tend to feed this meal @ least 4x a yr.
Also something in his food isn’t sitting right w/ him. Check his food and treats because its not sitting right w/ his tummy.

I would try the canned pumpkin….and then take him for a walk right away!

I’ve heard pumpkin works wonders, but I can’t get my guy to eat anything but meat and greek yogurt (yeah, not even cheese).

@Eva Peron: I was going to say the same thing!
OP: it has to be PURE canned punkin. Libbys is the best. but there are some off brands that are just as good. Just make sure to read the ingredients list to make sure there is no added sugar or anything

Canned pumpkin (NOT pumpkin pie mix!) and probiotics. I give my cats probiotics everyday and it really does wonders for their digestive systems.
You can also try a heavy pinch of oat bran added to wet food for constipation.

I give my little guy a teaspoon of olive oil in his food. He loooooves the taste and it keeps him perfectly regular! 😀
