After a great lengthy and odd, and delayed process, our offer was accepted! Most exciting, I’ve already started looking at gardening blogs to figure out what plants to kill try to grow. But before we can start a garden…we have our home inspection on Friday. Any advice? We’re planning on both being there to ask questions. I think we should pay the extra $50 for the separate garage inspection, DH is a little uncertain about it. Unfortunately, it’s apparently impossible to inspect a pool in the winter it turns out.

Follow your inspector everywhere, even the attic. And take your own notes. Inspectors throw out all sorts of random good information, and it helps to write those tidbits down.

Do any inspection you can! An extra $50 is nothing in the grand scheme of buying a house. Definitely do it. Be as thorough as you can! Bummer about not being able to inspect the pool.
Are you doing pest inspections as well?

@crayfish: We hadn’t planned on it, unless the inspector saw evidence that might suggest issues. Unfortunately though, our inspection period is really short – and eaten up by the holiday weekend. I had more generous (but still standard) time frames for the inspection in the offer that our lawyer shortened (he left time before the P&S signing for the reports to come back, but shortened time for actual inspections) – I thought about extending but continue to kick myself for not having changed it back. So tomorrow is the last day for inspections and I’m not sure we’d be able to do it after that. We’ll get a radon test done though.
