I saw the photo booth poll and that over 80% of us voted “love them.” However, we all know how stupidly expensive they can get! Has anyone out there done a homemade photo booth? How did you do it? What did people think? My FI and I are considering this. FSIL is a photog, and has great backdrops we can borrow. I am just not sure how to go about it technology-wise, and if people might think it’s lame to do a home-made version of something really popular and fun. Thoughts??

I went to a wedding recently that had a homemade photobooth and it was awesome. There was a backdrop and some props like hats, boas, mustaches on sticks, etc. It was super cute and people were able to take their own pictures and have them immediately. I’ve also heard of people making a photobooth like this and having someone stand there and take pictures, then they post them to a website later so everyone can go look at them and save them if they want. You’d have to hire someone to take the pictures all night, though, so I don’t know if that would really be any cheaper.

Check out http://sparkbooth.com or just google DIY photobooth. There are different ways to do a photobooth. With sparkbooth you need a laptop, webcam.
Looks very doable. I read somewhere to get a better webcam than comes with a laptop. The pictures can be printed right away or stored and sent for printing later. I didn’t do it but was seriously thinking about it.

I haven’t done it YET but we’re planning on DIY’ing our own photobooth. We’ll be using the Sparkbooth software the PP recommended, with my laptop & webcam. I have a nice DSLR but I don’t wanna risk anything happening to it. I’m making a background out of wallpaper and we will be paying a not so close friend of ours to man the booth (someone that isn’t close enough to us to be an invited guest, he’s more a friend of a friend- who happens to use the same computer & camera as me). The only kink I have yet to figure out is the printing! There are alot of ideas out there on pinterest & google as well!

We had a photobooth. No one used it. Zero pictures. I was so upset.
