Not so much for a cold but when I start to feel a sore throat coming on, I take a tbsp of honey with lemon juice. It’ll help soothe it and prevent it from getting worse. I’ll also drink a lot of tea with lemon and honey.

I know this isn’t a home remedy but I usually swear by Alka-selzter + cold. I know others that swear by it as well.

Hope you feel better!

jackiebee :  get lots of rest this week/weekend to squash it early! I’m also partial to a hot toddy when I’m feeling sick (although I can’t now that I’m preggo). Fresh lemon, local honey, and a shot of whiskey topped of with hot water.

Chicken Soup. It’s one of the only home remedies (including vitamin c) to actually be supported by scientific studies to help with a cold.

Soar Throat- Heat up some water (as hot as your mouth can handle it without burning) and add salt until the salt won’t dissolve anymore. Do gargles with it 2-3x a day.

Cough- Get a white onion and cut it in half. Boil the onion (It should have a hint of color change) You can add honey and lemon if you don’t like the taste of onion and drink it with a straw so you don’t have to smell it.

Cough- Drink a tablespoon of honey. Just like that. Nothing in it. 2-4x a day or as needed.

Ear Ache – Make chamomile tea and let it cool down. Put 2-3 drops in the ear that hurts.

For a runny or stuffy nose -Mucinex Sinus minty flavor or just put some Vicks in your nose.

I used to get colds so easily. I honestly swear by these tricks now. I started feeling so crappy yesterday and this is what I did (and do everytime I feel something coming) and it didn’t develop:

Oregano oil

Lots of water

I make a concoction of lemon, ground ginger, turmeric root, cinammon sticks and hot water and drink that

Garlic. I sometimes chew on a whole clove.

Oil of oregano.  Disgusting, but it’ll take it away pretty fast.  Also oscillococcinum.

ajillity81 :  YES! One of my coworkers recommended Zicam to me and I tried it the last time I started getting a cold. It worked wonders!

I feel you – I’m just getting over a head cold! I stand by zicam, it’s worked wonders for me.  This round, I bought one of those sinus rinse bottles to try because I was pretty congested – it’s kind of gross but it helped so much to flush all the gunk out!!yell Other than that, I just knock myself out with NyQuil at night to get a good amout of sleep and keep my humidifier on next to my bed so I don’t wake up coughing in the middle of the night. Feel better bee!

jackiebee :  EmergenC brand packets. A ton of hot tea with lemon and honey or just water with lemon and honey. A lot. Like one every two hours. Hot chicken soup like really hot and a dash of hot sauce. It clears my sinuses right up if only temporarily. Hot shower to breathe steam. Helps me cough up stuff.

I rub menthol on my chest to help the cough. And last but not least lots of sleep. Take the day off now so you don’t need to take more later. I found this out the hard way. Feels wimpy but your coworkers and your lungs will thank you. Sleep and drink hot water the whole day.
