As first time homeowners, DH and I are currently going room by room and repainting. molding and various other things to improve our new ( to us) house. I became pretty discouraged over the weekend, because it took me SO LONG to get things right, to get the paint looking good and to make ANY progress. It will be a very challenging couple of months, but so far– the ” finished” parts are pretty rewarding, I would like to see some before/after or progress pictures of things you’ve done around your home to improve or change the style!
This is my very first project with painting.
BEFORE: [ I am not a professional, don’t judge my need to tape or taping skills! :)]
First coat up:
Finished! ( for now)
Installed a new light switch and replaced some of the sink parts
added some smell good!
Put a second layer of paint around the trim to really make it pop against the floor and the wall color.
Sorry for the overload of pics– I was excited to finally do something to this house to make it feel like we are actually making improvements instead of just filling it with stuff!
Share your pics of home projects, furniture, artwork or anything that you love about your home or have done to improve it!

@Mrs_Amanda: The spare bedroom across from our room is unused. We have 3 spare rooms total in the house, so I decided to make something out of it.
My husband is a clothes hoarder and takes up ALL of our joined closet. I have no space for any of my things. So I decided to make this room my dressing room!
As of right now I have shelves up and everything on the shelves, with my clothes hanging. I have a dresser I need to sand and finish, I need an area rug and a makeup vanity, as well as some curtains for the window. I purchased the giant $99 mirror from Ikea so that is my floor to ceiling mirror.
The photo I have is of my shelving idea. I got it from Pinterest (surprise surprise). The brown lines are where the shelves are. There are two black lines where we installed more 1 foot pipe rods straight out of the wall. My longer dresses hang on the taller rod, shirts and stuff hang on the shorter one. I then put my shoes, hats, purses and some nice jewelry on the three shelves. (The top shelf is actually much longer than how I depicted it in the photo)

Very nice! I think storage is going to be a problem for us to address down the road!

Oooh, I watch to much HGTV and looooove before and after pictures! I have more at home, but this is what I have on this computer.
Just a little lighting change:
And then the master bedroom. The first is when we bought it, the second was after I changed up the curtains and painted it. And the 3rd is painted again cause I hated the first color and with the bed we built. There more decor and furniture now, but I dont have those pics.

@Mrs_Amanda: we’re moving to a new place next week and I redid some old dressers my FMIL gave us! I finished the first and am working on the second now. I wanted to give it a lightly distressed feel too. It was my first project so don’t judge me too harshly!

We move in 10 days to our house! Hoping to have lots of pictures!

Our house needed a lot of work when we moved in, but we just finished our dining room makeover, and I am in love. We still need a chair rail to go on top of the wainscoting once we find one we like and a mirror to go over the buffet, but it is better than the purple! Also, I have to give DH a little shout out because he did it all on his own!

@housebee: LOL! We have a very similar island to the one in your first picture and I didn’t even know there was a paper towel rod on the side of it until I saw your picture! I just put the paper towels there, thanks to you! 🙂

@onyx81: LOVE the dining room, we just got finished painting and repairing ours over the long weekend!
@housebee: I love your updated kitchen and especially the pulls on the cabinets– nice!!
Here are a few more from our over the weekend projects:
For this room we had to repair 3 holes in the wall/molding and then do a MAJOR cleaning of all of the baseboards, windows, floors, doors. It was filthy when we first started. The dining room table is also a family heirloom piece that my grandmother refinished for us.

Ooh!! Awesome job ladies! I have so many projects up in the air…
Here’s some of our kitchen before (totally messy, I was reorganzing everything, DH made the place quite a bachelor pad before I moved in):
And AFTER: (crappy lighting, sorry)
Now I’m working on refinishing a kitchen table (or two?!)… and my kitchen (where that glass table is) looks like this:
I couldn’t get the first table (the oval one in back) as light as I wanted, so I bought another table to switch the tops… It’s still a work in progress. lol
The chairs on the other hand: are coming along… (before on the left, after on the right)
As is our laundry room: before (ish): I had already taken down a bunch of the hideous wall paper…
We’re still waiting on our new sink cabinet… But we also have some new “built-in” (prefab, screwed to the wall) storage on the left wall, a small counter area and built in dog dishes. 🙂 It’s coming along… Just slowly. lol

@wandering_gypsy: wow– that is a huge difference in the kitchen and the laundry room! I love the stripes, I just bought some paint for ours and it is on the to do list.

This was from our condo. We are renovating our house now but didn’t take any pictures yet.. Will do that sometime soon.. once I clean it and remember 😉
We completed renovated everything in here, did most of it ourselves (with parents help of course). We just had someone install the kitchen for us and lay down the laminate flooring. the rest we painfully worked through for a year and a half. Everything was original when we bought it, looked really dated and scary.
