Darling Husband and I got robbed last week. We are looking into home security systems. I realize this is likely regional, but I know nothing about security systems. DH says to get sensors on the doors and motion dectors in the rooms. He said they’ll try to upsell us on sensors on every window.
Regardless, I’d love to know what systems you have in your homes and why you choose that particular system.
Also, are there particular features you now love or hate, now that you have it?
Ideally, I’d like something that has some sort of security response and something that doesn’t cost a small forture (now that we don’t have much to protect, it’s more for peace of mind).

Here’s a recent thread to get you started.
I absolutely loved my ADT system. No complaints at all until I needed to cancel because I sold my house.

We have ADT with sensors on just the doors plus we added smoke detectors that are monitored for peace of mind for our animals. We pay less than $50 a month for this and I feel really safe with it especially when Darling Husband is out of town.
Things I love: I feel safer, I feel my fur babies are safter, love the peace of mind, plus the ease of use.
Things I don’t like: They will call both Darling Husband and I FIRST before sending someone out to respond, I semi-wish they would just respond. However when I forget that it is on in the morning when I let out the dogs I’m glad there aren’t cop cars rolling up while I’m in my robe.

@GroovyHippieChick: thanks for posting the link to the older thread! I didn’t pay attention to that (pre-breakin). Boy, I wish I did or I likely wouldn’t be in my current mess. 🙁

I will never live anywhere that doesn’t have security system! I love mine and use it every single time I leave and every night before I go to bed! I believe right now the house I live in is safetouch but my parents have ADT and we never had any problems when I was living at home!

The house we bought has an ADT system but we haven’t activated it. I want to look into doing so. ADT is expensive, but you can apparently use their equipment (or other equipment) and get monitoring from Nextalarm.com for much cheaper. I haven’t looked into this but need to–but I’m just posting it as possibly something to consider.
