After a year of “waiting” for my BF to propose, we are in the home stretch, which is so exciting! We went ring shopping last month and I picked out a style I liked. Now he’s in the actual ring buying process (I’m 99% sure) – yay!
It’s just funny that the closer it gets, the harder it is to wait. I’m also trying not to bring up engagement/wedding with my BF; I don’t want to pressure him or drive him crazy (I’m basically driving myself crazy with all of my engagement anticipation right now!). We have a big vacation planned right after Valentine’s Day, and I’m trying really hard not to expect a proposal then (but it’s hard – it would be the PERFECT time to get engaged). At this point, I don’t even care about a big fancy ring and an elaborate proposal; I’m just ready to move forward with our lives and make our relationship “official”.
Is anyone else in the same spot? Does anyone else remember the last few weeks of “waiting” being particularly rough?

@Cinderella7: It’s awesome that you are so close to getting engaged! I’d probably take up a new hobby to get your mind off of it 🙂

My ring will be done end of Janauary and I know what you mean- the last few weeks are HELL. So tough knowing you’re so close

I know it’ll be happening before the end of March. I can’t wait, going to burst with excitement 😛

Yep! but I’m the guy so i’m in a different position than others.mind you, the waiting position for the male is probably just as hard and frustrating (in my case)
We originally were talking about getting engaged and me buying a specific ring. But I wanted to surprise her, so I told her that I think we should wait until we’re more financially secure… which was believable because we’re both grad students. Little does she know that I bought the ring already and am WAITING for it to be completed!
I’m even more frustrated because she literally came up to me today and asked “so it’s (the proposal) really not gonna happen anytime soon… and I saw the frustration/pain/saddness on her face it took every fiber in my body to not tell her the ring was ordered…. but this little bit of pain or frustration will result in a lot of joy and tears hopefully… it’s only been 4 days (when it’s supposed to take 3-4 weeks) since the ring was ordered and I just wanna yell at the jeweler for not hurrying up!

All together now… Awwwwwwwwwwww

@Cinderella7: I’m with you!!! He’s had the ring for a little over 2 weeks now and I’m POSITIVE that the proposal is coming this week. He says he thinks we should “do something fun this weekend when we’re off from work.” He usually goes to the barber once every 3 weeks to get a haircut, but his hair is freaking long recently and hasn’t gotten a cut in over a month! Everytime I ask him wth are you growing your hair out?! When are you cutting it?! He just smiles and shrugs and says “don’t worry I will.” SMH. The closer it gets, the harder the waiting gets…FOR SURE. I’m bursting at the seams. These next few days are gonna be rough, but I know it’ll be worth it!

@Cinderella7: ahhh! thats so exciting! i’m going through the same thing right now! My SO has the ring but he wants to surprise me with the proposal so i have NO clue when it’s gonna happen. if he takes too long i am goign to go INSANE! I joined the SIUP to help keep me accountable and not drive him insane…but its driving me crazy! i have so many questions i want to ask him lol. waiting IS VERY rough but at least we have the Bee right?? the ladies here are awesome! good luck to you and i hope you get your proposal very soon!

Thanks for the support, everyone! It’s so nice to have the Bee where you can get all of this off your chest. Tonight was particularly hard – I had dinner with my two best friends, one of whom is pregnant and the other who is recently engaged. I am SO thrilled for them and they deserve all of these good, exciting things, but it was a little embarrassing – when it was my turn to talk, I had nothing that exciting to say, especially compared to their big life events. Umm, I tried a new recipe last night? I got a promotion at work? I started a new pilates class? Nothing is going on my life.
I just feel like my life is so “stuck” in some ways, because I can’t move forward with a lot of the things I want to do with my BF/partner (buy a house, get a pet, have kids) until we’re at least engaged. It’s a good thing BF is at a work dinner tonight, or he would have dealt with a very cranky sad girlfriend this evening. I hope he doesn’t make me wait much longer – I really don’t know if I can do it.

@Cinderella7: I think you’re strong enough to get through these next few weeks but I also hope your BF proposes sooner rather than later!
