Love this idea... I like the idea of a rustic wedding and pies would go perfecly. What kinds? :)
Yes, as long as the pies are really good and the crust is perfect! (I'm a pie snob)
That sounds really awesome! Maybe you could search out some neat antique-ish pie plates for the pies too, so they add to the rustic charm! :)
That would be an amazing idea!!
I love this idea. I've seen pictures of weddings with pies instead of cake and I thought it was really cute. (this particular wedding that I saw was on Pi day - I thought it was clever) It gives guests a lot of variety. Maybe you can incorporate ice cream to make them a la mode for some extra goodness.
@cherrycoke: I'm not sure yet... blackberry? rhubarb? strawberry? apple?
@SandyDollHair: I'm a total pie snob too! And my grandma's crust is perfect! I grew up with high expectations of pies :)

I thought this was adorable!
@QBbride: Mmm, those flavors sound delish. That question wasn't really significant...my sweet tooth just wanted to know :)
I think it's a great idea. :) Mr. Peach actually wanted to do a wedding pie instead of a cake. We did cupcakes, but I love when I see pictures of a pie buffet at weddings.
@jude7186: My fiance would die if there was ice cream there! I would be afraid it would melt though? I'm sure I could figure something out. We're having a wedding at a house afterall. There's always a freezer...
Definitely! A good friend who is an organic farmer did this at her farm wedding. Some of her farming friends made farm-fresh homemade pies...like 20 of them. They were delicious! So much better than cake. Would totally do this for my wedding if my venue didn't provide the cake.

I think this would be great! Just make sure to have a good variety. Some other good ideas would be banana cream, french silk, pumpkin, and cherry pies :) And the ones you mentioned as well. Now I'm craving some pumpkin pie, haha
@QBbride: either the freezer or you can have buckets of ice cream sitting in ice when it's ready to serve.
Who doesn't love pie? Make sure that your venue allows homemade food to be brought in since many do not due to health codes for safety reasons.
Pie is lovely - you could have like a savoury pie and a dessert pie too! Yum yum!
Pie is so delicious...it's one of my favorite desserts! So much better than cake or cupcakes in my opinion.
I think I've managed to convince my fiance about the pies! I'm so excited!
I think it's a lovely idea and I LOVE rustic weddings! It's not something you see regularly which I think adds to the wow factor and perfect :)
I'm bumping! I wanted desserts that we love: brownies and chocolate chip cookies as our only offering but have been guilted into a single cake. Just made one for fun today and decided that I am making our cake too!
By the way, pie tables are the hip thing to do in the PNW, haven't you googled 'camping weddings' as much as I have? ;)
HAVE FUN! It's your wedding. :)
Yes! Yes! Yes!
My FI and I are getting married in October and plan on having a 3 teir pumpkin cheese cake (1 cake on 3 different heights of cut tree stumps) with my famous graham cracker/ginger snap butter crust.
We hate cake and I wanted something we'd actually look forward to cutting!
My family hates the idea and thinks 3 cheese cakes will not be enough but I keep reminding them that wedding cake is NOT CHEAP and not tastey (to us).
Pies are PERFECT for a rustic wedding. Go for it!
My friend did this. I LOVED it! She inspired my FI and I to do our favorite: fruit tarts!
I would happily partake. Just be sure they allow food made in non professional kitchens at your wedding venue.

Hi bees,
We're having a fairly low-key wedding on a private property right on the beach. I really like the idea of country/rustic weddings. Even though this is a beach wedding (not getting married right on the beach but with the view of the beach), do you think it's OK to do a more rustic wedding than a beach wedding?
I really like the idea of pies for dessert instead of wedding cake/cupcakes. My grandma makes the best pies and I thought we could make them ahead of time and freeze them, then probably serve them at room temp after dinner. I thought this would be fairly inexpensive and be a nice way of involving my grandma.
What do you ladies think?
