    Hey ya'll!

I'm getting married on May 22 2011, that is approx.  4 months 16 days away. I am 5'8 and currently weigh 204.  I was at 227 and lost that by doing a crazy diet called HCG that is injections...and only 500 calories a day and was just TOO TOUGH and unrealistic to keep doing....With that said.....

I would love to get to 160-170 by my wedding day! ... Is that Goal even Reachable ?! Or am I just plain Crazy?!?! Tell me what you think ladies/Gents..!!!

I have a Gym Membership that is Running out In Feb. Im debating on not renewing..because I never hardly go! I bought The 30 day shred by Jillian Micheals and havent started it yet..and I am thinking about purchasing an Elliptical...BUT  I would love Advice from all of you on What/How I should do to accomplish my goal..

    Thanks soo very much !

    Jen

Honestly, I think if you're prepared to work hard you could do it. It'd be less than 2lbs a week. Which I think is doable - but you have to work hard.

USE the gym. DO The 30 Day shred. Don't buy an ellipitical - that's a waste of money. Just go to the damn gym! lol. I hate going too - but if you really want to lose 30 - 40 lbs you'll have to work hard. It won't just melt off. (Gosh how I wish it would!!).

I have found Weight Watchers VERY helpful. I lost 20 lbs in 2 months with that program and minimal exercise. Health wise it is healthy to lose 1-2 lbs/week. 4 months has approximately 16 weeks, plus 16 days is 18 weeks, right? So a reasonable goal would be 36 lbs.

Remember though, you have to have your dress altered before the wedding, so you need to account for that.

500 calories a day is completely insane. Don't do that again!!!

I think if you set your mind to it and don't cheat than yes it is possible but it all depends on how dedicated you are. I will add that my sister had a gym membership she never used so finally gave that up and bought an elliptical. She keeps it in her living room and uses it all the time. She has lost a substantial amount of weight 60+ pounds. (She is also on South Beach)

healthy weight loss is 1-2 pounds per week. with a little over 4 months, you have about 18 weeks, so that's 36 pounds.

are you doing weight watchers? a lot of people have great success with it.

I don't know if its realistic, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't try! The 30 day shred will totally kick your ass, I've never been so sore in my life. You just need to set your goal and actually do it every day! You want to lose like 60 lbs before the wedding. That's like 15 lbs a month. I have no idea if thats overdoing it, but I think you should just work as hard as you can. I know for a fact that I wouldn't work out as hard at the gym as Jillian makes me at home. You can do it!!

I think it's very possible.  I have been hearing that the Weight Watchers online is helping a lot of people.  I would also re-new the gym membership.  Exercising goes a long way.  If you don't already do it now, drink water and only water.  I know it may be hard, but it helps a lot.  Good luck!

Yes you can- or at least come close.  It will take dedication and really watching what you eat. And read up on nutrition.  Ready nutrition for dummies or you on a diet by dr. Oz

Count calories (use mydailyplate.com or something similar to track as well as figure out how many you should be eating.)

dont eat processed foods, drink alcohol (or limit to 2 per week), lots of veggies, lean meats, moderate fruit and whole grains. No sugar.

And make an exercise plan and stick to it. Do some research and learn why you are doing these exercises. I would recommend 3 days of lifting (follow a plan) and then 2 days of intervals (either running, biking, jump roping etc)

I have another suggestion on a way to count calories: you can use MyFitnessPal on-line or as an app on your phone.  Their list of food is up to date and very easy to use.  =)

Its better to get half way there than no-way there, right? So I'd just go for it. Join weight watchers and work out like 5x/week.

I think it's realistic to set small goals as you go vs. one big one for one big event.

What has helped me change my mentality is not "I want to be less fat for my wedding" but "I want my changes from before the wedding to change my life for the better as a wife and future mother"

i recommend weight watchers and a trainer.  It'll be a better investment than anything else for your wedding (but the ring!)

definitely start going to the gym! i know it's hard to keep motivation going, but i always think that i never regret going to the gym when i'm done, but if i skip it and go home, i regret that. maybe you can start with the Couch to 5K? they have an app on the iPhone that tells you when to run and when to walk. i hate running, but i actually enjoyed doing that. good luck!

I would recommend signing up for Weight Watchers online.  I am doing it right now, and am having great success with it.  My schedule also doesn't allow for me to go to a meeting, but doing it online provides a lot of support.

I lost 25 lbs over the course of a summer break a few years back, so I think it's possible to lose a significant amount of weight before your wedding.  But try to focus on how you look and feel, rather than a number on the scale.

Exercise: Do something everyday.  You'll need rest days from more intense workouts, but even on rest days, go for a longish walk (30-45 min?).  Combining cardio and weight training will give you the best results.  Maybe shoot for an hour or so a day of one or the other or a combination.  The 30 day shred is a good dvd.  Does your gym offer group classes?  They really help get my motivation up, when I commit to a certain time and go (plus, there are always older or more out of shape people than you in the class, so if they can do it, you can do it!)  Or set a goal that you want to be able to run/bike X distance or time (or whatever) and treat yourself once you get there.

Food: You need way more than 500 calories/day to live.  Eat when you're hungry, but watch portion sizes big time.  Eat lots of veggies, get enough protein, limit dairy & carbs, and eliminate processed food and sugars to the biggest extent you can.  If you crave sweet, have fruit - it at least has fiber to digest along with the sugar.  Eating lots of veggies helps me, because I can still eat a large quantity of food without gaining weight :)

    Good luck!

First, congrats on losing weight!  Second, others may disagree, but I have never seen anyone lose that amount of weight by just going to the gym.  Exercise is healthy and helpful, but most of what you need to focus on is what you eat.

I think you can come close to your goal if you set a plan and stick to it.  My FH lost 40 pounds in about 4 months by doing the South Beach Diet.  No exercise.  He really stuck to it though.  Total he has lost over 60 pounds and has kept it off for over a year.  I really think South Beach works if you stick to it.  Good luck!

I am a strong believer in South Beach. I have seen all kinds of people around me dropping weight and being healthy about it! It changed my mother's life. Not only did she lose a bunch of weight, but her allergies and migraines went away. She had more energy, slept better and was happier than I've ever seen her in my life.

I started South Beach this past week and have already lost 6+lbs. The first 2 weeks are the most crucial to get rid of cravings and burn belly fat so there is normally large weightloss in the first 2 weeks. Phase 2 and 3 help your maintain a healthy way of eating and living. I'm also doing 30 minutes of cardio on the eliptical 3-5 times a week.

I don't normally believe in diets, but South Beach isnt' a typical diet. It is meant to promote healthy living and consequentially losing weight.

I have a friend who lives 3,000 miles away and she is doing the diet with me. We are documenting everything we eat, our weight, and measurements on a blog to keep eachother accountable. IT'S GREAT!

My goal is to lose 50-60 lbs by August. I think that I weighed about 210 a couple weeks ago. This morning I weighed 199.0 lbs. :)

My Fitness Pal will give you the amount of calories you should eat daily.  Here's how it works:

    • You set your goal weight
    • It'll ask you questions about your daily activities
    • It'll give you the amount of calories your should eat daily
    • Log on after you eat a meal and/or snack to record food
    • After recording the meal and/or snack, it'll give you remaining calories for the day
    • You also want to record drinks and what you did for exercise as well.
    • Only negative about recording the exercise is that it'll up the remaining calories for the day.  I suggest logging that in at the end of the night.
    • At the end of your recording, it'll tell you how much you'll weigh in approximately 5 weeks if you continue on with that plan.

Honestly if you don't work out you're not going to get anywhere. Losing weight means being healthy, being healthy means eating properly and being active. One cannot lose weight if you're not going to put good hard effort into BOTH aspects. Go to the gym, do not buy a machine. Your body reponds MUCH better to different work outs not the same thing day in and day out (like you'd get with the elliptical).

Know that once you start working out your fat (no offense intended) will turn into muscule so you may lose weight for a while but then you might plateau while still shedding inches. This is because fat is bigger and lighter than muscle. When you start getting muscle from working out your weight might even go UP but you'll be physically getting smaller.

I honestly think your goal is much to ambitious. It CAN be done, but should it? You're going to be sooo stressed out about this, probably a little irratible and cannot enjoy some foods for sheer fear. 4 months to go you should be enjoying your time not killing yourself for this goal.

Either way- good hard work is the way to go, but I also think you should maybe set something a little more practical so you can enjoy the next 4 months a litte more. My 2 cents.

@cyndistar3: I should at least start doing that until I can start up on my exercising again.  I am waiting for my weight balls to come in next week.  I should start going to the gym again, but I get bored with going alone.  My friend who used to go with has a new job and can't make it.  Haha.

@cyndistar3: That's my problem too.  I'm a little too broke for the gym right now, but if I also don't have enough money to cancel my contract.  I'm stuck in the rut.  THANKFULLY it's only $22 a month (Yay Planet Fitness!) and I could have it for $12 a month, but they won't let me reduce it until my contract is up.  Isn't it amazing though how cleaning and other little things helps you burn calories?  I feel like a piece of lard right now just sitting around!  Gotta get moving!

I think it's doable, but it won't happen without committment.  You'll need an actual diet plan, just saying "I'm on a diet" won't do the trick.  I think WW or SBD are both great plans.  Be prepared to say "no" a lot when people offer treats, invite you out, ask if you want dessert, etc.  You have to sacrifice to lose weight...don't let anybody tell you that you can lose weight without changing what you eat.  You have to make changes.  I know you can do it!  Good luck!

I have to say, I don't know where you are hiding those pounds!  But anyways, you look great and I am glad you are on the boat to getting even healthier.  I am kinda in the same situation as you.  198lbs wanting to lose a total of 50 before my 29th birthday in May. (I have gained 30 lbs over the last 3 years)

I know it is going to be a beast.  I have dedicated myself to 2-a-day workouts on most days and a fairly strict and clean diet.  I also cut alcohol down to 4 glasses of wine per week only to be consumed on weekends.

I hope and pray I can stick with it.  I don't want to be chubby anymore and I want to ring in the last year of my 20s as a fit and trim woman!  If you want, I will check in with you weekly.

I'm doing a calorie count at http://caloriecount.about.com You put in your current weight and target weight and target date. You also enter in your activity level, and it will generate the amount of calories you should eat per day to reach your goal.

You can do it! Good luck!
