Girls I need your help! I really like Allure 8815 (first 3 pics below) but my mom and sister didn’t give me such great feedback when I emailed them the pictures. It was a sample size 14 so way too big on me and not clipped too well, so I think it would be tighter around the hips if ordered in my size and after alterations. Plus I am planning on losing some weight before the wedding. I’ve tried on quite a few dresses at a few different shops now and still haven’t gotten the “feeling” your supposed to get, but this one is my favorite so far… I think? But both my mom and sister said they thought the ruffles started too low on my legs and the torso looked too long for people 5’2 like me. I initially thought I would want an A-line too but haven’t found one dress in that style (between the $1000-$1400 range) that I really like. I love dresses with sweetheart necklines, beading/bling somewhere on top, but haven’t found that with a natural waist and not too many ruffles on the bottom. Also, seems like the tops I like all have skirts with way too many ruffles, ball-gown or heavy bottoms (The 4th picture shows that and makes me look kind of munchkin-y). My mom went dress shopping with me a couple weeks ago and she loved Mori Lee 1614 (Pic 5, no pics of me in it though because the shop didn’t allow pictures) but I don’t like the neckline and the girl helping me said it could only be altered to a very slight sweetheart without taking away too much of the beading. Any advise would be greatly appreciated, thank you!!

I think it looks great on you! And you obviously love it. So get the dress!

I think the flare looks just in the right spot on you: it balances your hips and shoulders and makes your torso look long & lean, which I think makes you look taller overall, something the natural waist does not.

I love that mermaid on you! Go for it!

Are you standing on a pedestal in the first pics? I would just worry that maybe once it’s hemmed the skirt part might be a bit short looking if so, but I’m no expert!

I actually think the Allure silhouette makes you look taller! I think it’s super flattering on you– go for it!

I just wanted to say, if you haven’t had that “this is it” feeling, don’t stop looking! I WISH someone had told me this while I was shopping. Instead, I chose the one I liked the most at the time, but wish I had kept looking.
You’ll be stuck with serious dress regret if you settle!

Go with the one that makes you feel like a bride. My family were luke warm on my dress too, said “it was too much dress”. I bought the one they liked, then ended up buying the one I wanted. I am short (5’3), but I’m also plus size, so I kinda looked like a marshmallow. Bought myself some 5″ platforms, and I don’t care. You only do this once, do what you want.

Get what you love because your happiness is what makes you look good. Not the style. But that aside, I think the first dress does look better. I think the fit/flare lengthens your torso! it’s lovely.

@Seattlebridetobe: I like the first dress you choose, your favorite one. I think it looks great on you. I’d go with the one I liked the best.:-)

Thanks everyone! I really appreciate your feedback. Prob will keep looking before mom gets here and at least I know this is a great back up if I don’t find anything better! I’m just worried I won’t find a dress that will look good on me!
@Westwood: no not standing on a pedestal but I am worried that once it was hemmed would look funny too but I was thinking some crinoline could help.
@csteen85: Thank you! I think I’ll take that advice! Really want to avoid the dress regret 🙂
@MrsTimmy: That really helps to know you had the family opinions issue too, thanks! I think I’ll pick whatever I like best too, just wish they would be more agreeable!

You look great in the dress you love! I don’t think it’s a problem at all!

I think you look awesome in the first dress. I would go with it.
