I was not going to post our names on here because I am so weird about choosing original names that no one uses, but I can't help but ask for all of your opinions!

My hubby and I have narrowed down our name choices to two girl names and two boy names. However, I have been hearing lately that our first choices are more popular than I thought they were. I ran into a gal who said she met three girls under the age of four in the past month who all shared our first name choice.... that freaked me out!!!

Can you tell me how popular you think these names are, if you know babies with these names, or whether or not you think they're "faddish?"

    Girl:

    Hazel (1st pick)

Coraline, Cora for short (2nd chocie)

    Boy:

    Jude (1st pick)

    Conrad (2nd pick)

I LOVE the name Cora, and I don't know anyone with that name.  I know one person with each of the boys' names you picked.

Coraline is definitely a fad.  I teach, I've started hearing that everywhere.  The others, not so much.

I deal with a fair amount of kids at my shop and I haven't heard any of those except Coraline, and she was a very nice British woman who was probably 20 years old.

@MissDareDevil: i love your names! so cute.

I knew a few Conrads, and about two Cora's. I worked in an elementary school for a year and heard lots of names (Isabella, Jasmine and Sophie were the most common!), but none of those!

Coraline is child main character of a Neil Gaiman take on Alice in Wonderland called, you guessed it, "Coraline." Throughout the book, everyone is constantly getting her name wrong.  Also, there's some regional ambiguity whether it is pronounced Cora-LINE or Cora-LEEN.  Oh, and they made a movie out of the book in 2009.

@MissDareDevil: If you are worried about Jude, you may consider the name Julian. The song Hey Jude was actually written by John Lennon for his son Julian and was supposed to be Julian instead of Jude. When they went to record it, Paul McCartney made them change it to Jude because he felt that using Lennon's sons name was too personal.

    Just a thought.

I know 1 Jude, but that's it.  All are very nice, unique names!

Oh, DH and I are totally in love with Judah for a boy!!  Our last name is only one syllable, so Jude doesn't quite sound right.

@piglet_625: our last name is only one syllable too, so we were gonna use a three syllable middle name if we went with jude! :)

Coraline reminds me of that book and movie people mentioned... I remember the book from when I was a kid. And a movie was just released... if it was in 2009 as PP said, then there are probably a lot of 1-2 year olds that have that name. Just a thought.

I don't know anyone personally by any of those, though.

I love Coraline, because of the movie.  I don't really like the rest of them, though.  Hazel reminds me of someone's grandma, Conrad reminds me of Lauren Conrad, and Jude reminds me of St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
