I saw this story on CNN this morning… this lady hid her $23k custom wedding ring at home in a watch box (and didn’t tell her husband) before she went to the hospital to have her baby.
Came back home from the hospital and found out that her husband had sold the box for $10 at a garage sale!
I feel bad for her, but I can’t imagine hiding my wedding ring before a trip away from home, and not telling DH where it was!
And P.S., the ring was three carats.

That is truly heartbreaking…I can only imagine if I were in her place. I would be a basketcase! I just have one question…why in the figgity fluck was a 23,000 dollar ring not insured?

I can’t imagine selling/throwing away a box without looking inside.
And why he was at a garage sale while his wife was in the hospital is beyond me.

@MrsWBS: Haha, I thought the same thing. Why wasn’t he at the hospital with her?

I also can’t imagine not insuring something of that size.
But seriously, I am trying to wrap my head around the process of hiding a $23k wedding ring in the house and not telling your hubby. I have jewelry that is not nearly that valuable hidden in our house, and DH knows where everything is. Yikes…

@MrsWBS: +1 why in the world was he having a garage sale?

Yeah.. why was this guy having a garage sale when she was delivering THEIR baby?

Hahaha so much of this story doesn’t make sense.

This sounds a little suspicious to me. Maybe he sold the ring for cash and made up this story as a cover. But I guess stranger things have happened.

Apparently he did open the box to make sure it was empty before selling it. However, she had hidden the ring under a flap or a cushion.
Here is another story on it from KTLA. The wife was giving her husband a little bit of grief and he said he couldn’t understand why she hid it in a box (without telling him!) when they have a safe at home.
Repeat: they have a SAFE at home and she instead chose to hide it in a box in the closet without telling her DH! I’m starting to lose sympathy for this lady!

Hmm, maybe SHE sold the ring!

@MrsWBS: Yeah that story sounds a little fishy

Something is bizarre about this story. I mean, I understand clearing out some space before you bring home a new baby, but having a yard sale with stuff that was just sitting out WHILE your wife is in the hospital is just weird!
If the ring turns up, they better give the person a substantial reward. Why they’d publicize the value/size of the ring so specifically when they want it back is also beyond me. I’d assume a ring I found in a garage sale box was worth peanuts … until I heard this on the news!
