We did an 8 day southern caribbean cruise!! We got married in October so our cruise was then as well! It was AWESOME!!
We took our honeymoon in October ('08) as well in the American Southwest. We spent 2 night in Las Vegas, 2 nights at the Grand Canyon and 1 week in Sedona, AZ.
We really enjoyed Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon, but Sedona was a little too touristy for us.
Depending on where you go, October can be a great time to travel. Because the summer travel season is over, some places aren't as crowded (with kids back in school, etc).
Have fun!
We are going to Moon Palace in Cancun it is the same place where we got engaged. It is beautiful and all-inclusive, it was two swim up bars and 12 restaurants, with island pools throughout. It is not on the strip which is really nice but, the water is not nice on the beach because of all the seaweed. It is inexpensive to go for airfare and accomodations it is less the $3,000. On top of all that they give you two excursions, massage, pedicure, and manicure. I just love it there! we are taking my son with us and our mom's might come too, the more the merrier. Do you have any ideas as to where you would like to go or what type of honeymoon you want?
We were going to go to the Seychelles, but ticket prices just haven't come down like we were hoping for... so we've revised our expectations and are hopefully going to go to Serengeti Natn'l Park in Tanzania, and then spend a week in Zanzibar. Tickets were half the price of Seychelles and only a few hundred dollars more than the Carribean!
We went to Secrets Capri in November of '08.... it's in Playa del Carmen, Mexico and it was fantastic!!! Its an all inclusive and everything was top-notch - the food, the drinks, the rooms, the service... we can't wait to go back for our anniversary some day!
we spent 3 days at the st. regis in aspen and 5 days in playa mujeres, mexico at the excellence resort there. i loved the combo of the snow and the beach.
San Francisco for 5 days, then 4 days in Santa Cruz where we met and a couple of days in Monterey. I'm really looking forward to the large amounts of delicious vegetarian food we'll get to eat :)
We are going to Turkey. Fiance and I wanted a place that neither of us had been, had beaches, had historical places to visi/tour (we are dorks like that) and was a little different than typical honeymoons. We were going to plan it ourselves but then found this fantastic website where you submit your desired location, budget, specific things you want to do, etc. and then get proposals like lending tree but for travel agents. Australia and New Zealand. Haven't booked it yet. I'm still earning my airline miles so we won't have to pay for the ticket. We are also getting room gifted to us by my future brother in law. I hope it will be fun! I hope for a 2 week vacation!
We did Sandals, Ocho Rios, Jamaica and it was AMAZING. I'd never been catered to and pampered that much in my life. We had a private villa with our own pool and a butler. The food was wonderful and the staff was the most helpful and courteous ever!
We are going to the all-inclusive resort, "Excellence" in the Dominican Republic!! We both have never been and found a great deal!
we are doing a local B&B minimoon then saving up for an Australia/New Zealand trip a few months later
we are planning to go to the big island of hawaii :) surf, sandy beaches, cold drinks, and beautiful sunsets.
SR, your post made me smile. We also went on our honeymoon months after our wedding and, yes, it was better. We were so relaxed! The other couples who were fresh from the wedding were so stressed out, it made us laugh. We went to Ocho Rios, Jamaica, but you didn't tell us where you were going.
We made our decision about the honeymoon, I called and got it all set up! :) We are going on an 8 day cruise to the Bahamas. We went ahead and booked the penthouse suite. We went out a cruise for New Years 07/08 and LOVED it so we are doing it again.
We have just decided today on Punta Cana. I can not wait! The beaches look amazing! We had thought about going to Mexico, but this morning changed our minds. Has anyone else been to the Dominican?
We are going to Cancun. It sounds so spring break, but I am really excited! We are staying at a couples-only resort and we are planning on doing some day trips to check out the Mayan ruins. Going on a honeymoon is such a nice reward for all of the hard work you put in to your wedding!
soontobe: i'm thinking about going to Punta Cana - which resort will you be staying at?
We are planning on either Jamaica or the Bahamas. We want an all-inclusive tropical place. And I just don't think I could do a cruise. I have such a weak stomach and even the slighest sway or feeling of being on water would make me miserable. I've been to Cancun 6 or 7 times (parents own a time share), 3 times with my fiance and we love it there. We almost want to go there for our honeymoon but figured we would try something else! We are hoping to spend under 3k with all inclusive 6 night + flight. Any other suggestions? What are your thoughts on Jamaica?
TO anyone going to Cancun: You will absolutely LOVE the white sand, clear water, there is plenty to do if you want to (or just relax) and most the locals are friendly.
August15bride: We are still trying to decide between a couple. We have about $2500 budget for our honeymoon, so we are trying to stay under that with all the fees and everything. I thinks its between the Barcelo Premium or Iberostar Bavaro. Where are you thinking about staying? And doesnt Punta Cana look amazing! Our travel agent says that they have the most amazing beaches she has ever seen!
We spent 5 days in Cozumel, Mexico at the Aura Wyndham and it was beautiful. The hotel was amazing and our room was awesome! We did go during hurricane season and had a hard time getting back because of the incoming hurricane but it was worth it to us. We would definitely go back.
We're going on a Caribbean cruise that stops in Turks & Caicos, Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, and the Bahamas.

I don't know about everyone else but wedding planning can sometimes stress me out, I think it's just because I am the one paying for the wedding. To get my mind off of things I sometimes just sit back and think about how fantastic our honeymoon is going to be. Due to my work schedule we cannot take our honeymoon until October, even though we are getting married in June. Sometimes I feel that will make it better.
Anyways, my question is to everyone, where are you going on your honeymoon?
