We just booked our honeymoon !! 8 nights at the Sandals in Antigua!! July 2nd, 2012

Has anyone been there?? I need some recommendations and suggestions!! Best excursions? Best places to venture to off the resort?

I haven't been to antiqua, just to a jamacia sandals resort.. and sandals does a fantastic job! Does antigua do white night? Pack a white outfit!!

What I learned are some of the nights you need to be fancy fancy. My love only packed sandals and sneakers to go to Sandals and we couldn't eat at one of the resturants because he needed dress shoes. So bring at least one nice outfit.

I live in Antigua!

For activities: Adventure Antigua (best day trip to do here in my opinion), ziplining, stingray city and sunset drinks at Shirley heights is a must.

some of our favourite restaurants - Papa Zouks for freshest fish and the local rum drinks, Cecilia's Cafe :)

We have a lot of out of towners here for our May wedding and doing a big group out at Papa Zouks and will be getting the boys some kitesurfing lessons which is something worth doing if you're into it.

Rest of it is up to you - beaches, a day trip to Barbuda, you might see some whales or dolphins on the way, downtown for souveniers, historical parks, but really the best way to experience Antigua is laying on the beach with a cocktail in hand ;)

tips:

book day trips with your hotel - if there's a problem they will help you!

exchange rate is 2.7ecd to 1usd - both currencies are taken but you'll get ec currency in change.

there's a departure tax! $25usd

be adventurous! Antigua has over 300 beaches, Sandals has a lovely one but there are better and more private ones!

eat local - pineapples in particular are amazing here

negotiate your taxi if not booking at the desk airport - specify rate is return/single, per person/group and what currency.
