Our honeymoon is 1 week in Jamaica at Royal Plantation resort (www.royalplantation.com) in October (still off-season) and is about $5,000 including airfare. I would think you'd be very hard pressed, unless you found a fantastic airfare deal, to even fly two people roundtrip to SE Asia for $2,200. Once you're IN SE Asia, you can travel/stay fairly inexpensively, but the flights are what will be very very expensive!
My honeymoon will be in the Yucatan Penninsula in Mexico for 5 days at an all inclusive resort, flying non-stop from NYC for $3000 total. We are going at the end of November which is just after Hurricane Season, but I'm not sure if it's considered peak season.
Our budget was $7000 for 10 days at the Excellence Rivera Cancun - but the 10 day trip would have caused me to miss my little ones first day of pre-school, so we droped it to 7, saving about $2000.
We used NWA vacations to book ours and got some really neat add ons for free - but I'm with the above, given flight costs I don't think that SE Asia is going to be an option.
I would suggest taking all or part of the buget and do something now - spend then next year saving and go for your 1 year anniversary.
I was at the same price range as you. For that amount you can go to punta cana in the dominican republic. We stayed at a wonderful resort for 6 nights in the honeymoon suite for $1700 including flight and taxes. The rest we used on excursions such as deep sea fishing and shopping!
Check out Miss SeaBreeze's blog. She is having a wedding in punta cana.
We're spending a week in Dominica at the Jungle Bay Resort & Spa for about $5000, including airfare, all meals, daily massages, and site visits (hikes, snorkel trips, cooking and yoga classes, etc).
I'm with Candi1024 -- it sounds like an all-inclusive in Puna Cana or DR would be better suited for your budget. Good luck!
I am going to Bali for 8 days. EVerything in southeast asia is cheap once you get there...im told 50 cents for beer kinda cheap, but when I was doing research for flights to Bali, the cheapest I found were 1050 per person.
It might depend on where you are going in souotheast asia, but flight tickets are around that price right now bc of gas prices. ONce you get there tho, accomodations and food and entertainment is really cheap.
My budget is 6000 dollars. Flight was about 2500, then hotels were around 2000 (there are plenty of cheaper hotels that are really nice. I just went a little overboard to pamper myself.), and i'm budgeting around 1500 for food and entertainment, but I heard 1500 is more than enough for Bali.
