In doing some research, most sources quote $3500 as average for total spent on a honeymoon. I am curious if that is true...
Also, if you're picking option 4, tell us where you went/are going!!
Ours was $3800. It was 8 days/7 nights in the Dominican Republic at the Excellence, June 22-30. Most expensive time of the year =\
We are hoping to keep it below $2000. This would include airfare to the west coast, rental car and hotels for our 7-10 day drive from San Fransico to Seattle (with lots of detours, of course).
We are spending almost 6k on an all inclusive resort/honeymoon package for 11 nights . Travel is important to us in general, and we usually spend 2-3k on our yearly vacations anyway.
We're probably going to spend arounf $5K but that will include spending money. We haven't been on a vacation since we got engaged (March 2008) and I'm really looking forward to it!
I guessed below 3k but my FMIL and FFIL are getting us a trip to Italy so I am not really sure how much it is costing...
I picked Option 3---it's in the lead right now! We're going to Hawaii, and our budget includes flights to/from Chicago, flights between islands, resort stays, and our daily spending plan for food and adventures. We're spending more than I expected for luxury, and I'm gonna savor every bit of it. : )
Normally our honeymoon would cost around 4k or 5k for 8 nights in Cabo San Lucas, but we are paying for it all in hotel points and air miles so we essentially aren't really paying for anything other than expenses while we are there. We might have to pay to upgrade our room to a suite when we get there though, unless they do it for free.
Ours was $2,800 for flights to Jamaica and seven nights stay at the original Sandals Resort - the Carlyle Inn. My grandfather generously gifted us $2,000 to go towards it so we are only paying $800... plus, I'm saving some extra for massages and excursions. It'll probably be somewhere around $3,200 in total.
Our budget is somewhere between $5K-$6K. We have pretty high travel expenses because we are flying from the rural Northwest to the Caribbean, so that amount includes a rental car to drive to the airport, flights, and hotels along the way (we have overnight layovers on the way there and on the way back.) It also inlcludes a 6 nights stay at an all-inclusive resort in St Lucia and our spending $$.
Can't wait!
OK, I picked option 4 but we're going to Italy for 2 weeks. We figure it's probably a once in a lifetime trip so we're going to enjoy it to its fullest! :-)
We are doing really simple. We usually spend about $1k-$2k per year on various small trips and one large ski trip. We don't have the money to spend a ton on our honeymoon and there is no where we REALLY want to go that is within our budget.
We spent about $7k but that includes our honeymoon TTD video. If you take that out, we only spent about $3k for 10 days all inclusive in Hawaii (two islands).
We are spending a little over 6k...all inclusive to St. Lucia. This is during July 4th week so I'm not sure if that bumped up airfare or not and we wanted a room facing the ocean.
Ours was $3500 at an all-inclusive in the DR for two weeks. That doesn't include spending money.
Our photographer's contract stated that the final balance was due 1 year after the wedding....but two weeks before she asked for the balance. I explained that we didn't have the money available b/c of what the contract said, but she still insisted the balance needed to be paid in full. I asked for an extension, and she said we could pay her after we got back from our HM. So while on our HM we tried not to spend our spending money. When we returned home, we paid the photographer. Such a bummer.
We spent $3000 on our flights and cruise with a balcony room. But on the cruise we spend like $1500! Which means total we spent $4500. So I voted option 2, but maybe I should have voted option 3 instead?
Ours is a little over $10,000. We are spending two weeks in Maui in an ocean front room at the Westin. We are sparing no expense for our honeymoon, but at the same time, if we didn't have the cash to pay for it, we wouldn't be doing it. We don't believe in financing things like this.
I picked option #3, we are spending 4 days in Rome and then leaving for a 7 day cruise around Italy. However, we haven't finished planning yet so it very well could put us into option #4! We plan on having kids once we've been married a year, so we are considering this our last big vacation for awhile.
All together, we spent about $8,000 on our two week honeymoon to Europe. Luckily, about $3,000 of that was a gift of my parents' timeshare. Another $1,500 or so was an unplanned expense at the rental car place, and we were (eventually) able to get that money back (thank you, American Express!). I think it's more than the usual honeymoon budget, but we did a TON of stuff and spared no expense. :)
We haven't laid out the cash yet, but I'm guessing we'll be around $3500, give or take $500. We are taking a direct flight to Cabo, then getting the heck out! LOL. We are not resort people. We found a little artists' colony about and hour and half north on the ocean, and we are staying at a little quirky place. Flight and accomodations are cheap, and we like street food and Mexican beer, so that will be cheap. A huge chunk of our budget will go to big game fishing. FI loves to get out on the ocean.
Trip of a lifetime for us. It came in at around $14,000 and that was with using my miles for the majority of the flights. We went to South Africa on safari for a week and then spent a week on the beach on Mauritius. I did a TON of research and actually got a great deal on the safari by buying it at auction. Those things are ridiculously expensive if you want luxurious accommodations. We decided to go for it since we were able to afford it without financing but spending large amounts of money always makes me a little stabby- doesn't matter what it's being spent on. However, in the end, it was 100% worth it and I don't regret one single thing. Phew!
Currently hovering around $3k. Haven't booked a single thing yet, though. So...who knows!
about 2800 for 6 night stay at an all inclusive near Cancun. This doesn't include spending money.... so although I selected 2, I should have picked 3!
We actually lucked out on our room rate, which is under 100 at a luxury hotel, but the flight is expensive because it's a dumb regional airport. We'll probably spend 2,000 once eating out/spending money is factored in.
@ grace
Dang girl, that it a GOOD price. My dad wants the whole family to go on safari before FI and I have kids, so I've done some investigating. I went to South Africa a few years back, and it really isn't an inexpensive country. That trip had no serious safari, though.
Point being, trip of a lifetime for a steal!
Our flights alone will be about $3000, and I'm estimating another $3-5k for hotels, food and activities. We're def not going ALL OUT, I guess the region we're headed is just expensive=(
It's looking like about $4,000 for us including flights, however, I'll be cashing in credit card points taking it down to $3000 and then we'll be using our settlement from getting hit in August to hopefully cover the rest and a month or two of mortgage :-)
We spent around $4000 all in - included round trip tickets to Bermuda, 5 nights at the Fairmont Southhampton, (was supposed to be 6, but got cut short due to trip delays...), food, drink, and excursion costs.
We went cheap for 5 nights at the Marriott in the VI's. We have a couple other trips (2 work, one play) that take us to Asia and the east coast plus CA later this year so we had to be realistic not only with time but money.
We were about $10,000 but we had two weeks in Dalmatia (coast of Croatia). It was amazing and now we're looking at buying a place there! If you have the cash, totally worth the splurge on the honeymoon (IMO)!
We wanted under $3k, but FI wants to go to London. The price will probably be higher than that.
We will probably spend less than $1k but that is b/c we are getting to use a timeshare for our hotel & we are going to Vegas so we can just drive there from LA. Kind of low-key, but that was just what we felt comfy with spending right now (both in terms of money AND time). Wish it was grander, but maybe the next year.
We're planning on going to Europe for 10 days, so we're in the #4 category. Airfare is what pushed us over.
We are taking a once in a lifetime trip. Two weeks in Fiji in two different all inclusive 5 star resorts. It is costing us $12,000, we still owe $8,000 but have six more months to pay it off before we go.
I don't think $3K - $7K gets you a honeymoon suite at most nice resorts (unless it's only for a couple nights), but that's our budget. We are staying in the second worst room at a 4 Seasons which we're hoping is still very nice.
Oh this is making me feel a lot better - my FI and I are headed to the Galapagos on an all-inclusive trip, so with air plus air again (ecuador to islands) plus trip cost, it's putting us around $10k. We hold travel very highly and have both really wanted to visit this place... I am hoping that with a honeymoon registry it'll be able to happen!!
We're spending between $4-5000 on 9 days. We're starting in Napa & Sonoma, CA, seeing the Redwoods, staying in San Francisco for a couple days, then flying to San Diego for 3 days and heading home. The cost includes all our airfare, car service in wine country, food, shopping, and hotels.
We're spending $3600 (so I had to choose the 3000-7000 range in the poll even though we were barely into it) for 15 days in the Caribbean! We're doing a cruise that goes to Cozumel, Costa Rica, PANAMA!, USVI, and a few others. I think cruises are an amazing value compared to some other honeymoons. All of our food and entertainment is included and we plan on bringing our own alcohol. We'll be in an interior room (they're the cheapest and smallest) for part of it and then a Balcony (only because they were having a free upgrade special) for the other part. Although our honeymoon is lengthy, I think we were really money conscious. My friend got married last year and her in laws gave them 6,000 for their honeymoon and they went to some resort for only a week. My other friend got married two years ago and they did a 7 day cruise but it was like 4500 (the groom's parents paid for it too) because they booked at the last minute. All things considered, I think we got a really good deal.
Not including any expenses while we are there we will be spending about $2700 so I guess we might go into the 3rd level range...
