I much prefer DR over the Bahamas… Check out the AMRESORTS (dreams, secrets, etc) for nice and reasonably priced all inclusive resorts. Mexico is always an option too if you haven’t been there. Cancun is beautiful.

@AmandaJK:  Date twin! I’ve never been to Punta Cana, but I’ve always heard good things. I’ve been to Mexico a few times (Mayan Riviera) and loved it. People I’ve talked to who have done both say they’re quite comparable in terms of hotels/food etc. Definitely go 5 star and I recommend a megaresort versus a smaller one – you’ll have more restaurant choice, more pools, longer beach, more stuff to explore etc. Iberostar, Bahia Principe, etc.

I’ve only been to the Bahamas once as a cruise stop in Nassau. It didn’t seem that nice in my opinion, and the only nice places on the island (that we saw) were very overpriced. Value wise I think DR is wayyyyy bettter.

To me California sounds like such a nicer vacation that the DR! But then again I live in Canada so it’s probably a lot more exotic to me than to you 😀

ive been to both the bahamas and punta cana. we honestly liked the bahamas 10x better. we stayed at a hotel that had free access to atlantis and that was fun, but the public beach was beautiful and we rented jet skis daily. bahamas is very developed, unlike punta cana. pc was nice but we would never go back, plus we both came back sick because of the water, which i know has happened to many people. i voted bahamas.

We were deciding between extreeeemely similar options, and we picked California! But that was, for us, the right call because we really like hiking and because our honeymoon is timing up with a film festival in Palm Springs, and we lovelovelove movies. Can you figure out which place has the most stuff that you’d want to DO? Like, if you’re foodies, where will you have the most food options? If you’re into snorkeling/scuba, where are the most options for that?

@AmandaJK:  Couples Swept Away in Jamica is AWESOME. All inclusive and just breathtakingly gorgeous, but it does involve a plane trip! Do you have a passport? If you want to travel, even to the caribbean, you need one. It takes a few months to get one, so you might want to start thinking about that too.

@AmandaJK:  I’m surprised! I’ve done the entire Caribbean and I thought Jamaica ( specifically 7 mile beach) was way better than anything in Mexico or the Bahamas! Good luck with your planning!

Cali! As long as you’re with your DH anywhere will be perfect. I’d go for the no flight option. With doctors advice – could your FI take something to reduce anxiety of flying? Just a thought.

@AmandaJK:  I have never been to the Dominican Republic so I can not have an opinion on it. Howeer, I have been to the Bahamas and I would not have a problem going back, but I would not reccomend it if neither of you have ever been. I do not reccomend anyone going without going with someone who has been, knows where to go and how to handle the hagglers.

That being said, since you are in LA have you considered a cruise?
