Neither of us have ever been on a cruise before, so for those of you that have experienced them both, would you suggest a Carnival cruise or Royal Caribbean? And why? Thanks for your feedback and also any other suggestions you may have ;)

i dont have experience in both - but i've been on 3 carnival cruises - i really like the cruise line. from what i've heard Carnival tends to have a more boisterous crowd but that makes it so fun in my opinion. go for a balcony suite...its worth the money.

I've sailed with both and while both are prefectly fine and I'd happily sail with either again, I think Royal Carribean is a slightly better cruise line.  I thought the boat was nicer, the food was better, and the activities and such overall were just a bit better.

But neither would be a bad option!

    Royal Caribbean.

But I'd also try to steer you toward Celebrity or Princess.   :)

I HIGHLY recommend Royal Caribbean. I wouldn't sail on any other cruise line!

RC.  On their newer boats it is such fun you won't want to leave for excursions.

Carnival, like PP said, is lower quality everything.

Between the two, 10000% Royal Caribbean and I've never even cruised before! By any chance, have you looked into Norwegian?

We're cruising to Bermuda for our honeymoon this October. Up until days before booking we were planning on going with RC. We would have gotten a 5 day cruise, with like 36 hours in Bermuda for roughly $3000. Someone suggested I check out Norwegian and I'm really happy that I did. We were able to get a 7 day cruise, in a suite, with almost 3 full days in Bermuda for $2200. It was a no brianer! We did tons of research and everything we saw, we loved. We actually just made our final payment on Friday!

Regardless of the cruise line you go with, you're going to have an awsome time!

As a travel agent... If it had to be between the 2 of these lines I would say Carnival. Mainly because the food is so much better and the rooms are larger. Also the cruise will 9 times out of 10 cost less.

I have sailed on both, and much prefer Carnival, sailing again September 19.

However I would also say check Princess and NCL as those are my 2 personal favorites. I have been on 3 Princess and 6 NCL so far to date, and they are both awesome. My first NCL cruise was a 1 night cruise to nowhere out of New York in 2008, there were 3 weddings on board that day and 3 bachelor and bachelorette parties, but unless you were looking for them, you really didn't notice. The one wedding was 150 people.

I've only sailed RC twice and I love it.  And we're planning on sailing RC again for our honeymoon next year!

I've cruised twice and both were Carnival.. and we're planning on cruising Carnival later this year for a vaca.  I've never been on RC, but my FI has.. and we're planning on cruising RC for our honeymoon next year.  FI says that the quality of food/ships is  a bit better with RC, but if you're looking to save some $, go with Carnival.  It's still tons of fun.. and the crowd is a bit more lively on Carnival.  Just depends on what you're looking for!  :o)

I am suprised Carnival hasn't had many votes. It all depends on what your priorities are, but I have cruised both lines and I must say that I LOVE LOVE LOVE CCL. I am going on my next cruise with Carnival in Sept.! It will be my 3rd with CCL. I cruised RCCL, and although I favor the look of their ships, I wasn't very impressed.

This is just my opinion, and I am sure others will disagree, but the food was better on CCL. I had way more fun on CCL, and I am not the drinking, rowdy type. The showers and staterooms were more spacious on CCL. I preferred the adults-only Serenity Area on CLL compared to RCCL's solarium.

I have to admit that I loved Portofino's (specialty restaurant) on RCCL. I also loved the design of RCCL Radiance of the Seas because most of the views were of the ocean because there was so much glass to look through.

I am sure whatever you choose you guys will have a great time. Over all the cruiselines are more similar than different.

if you want to have a good time definately Carnival!! Its referred to as the "party boat" Royal C is for older crowds and the food is so much better on Carnival.

@clover32512: and @specialklove: and @missfroggy: Really??  I definitely found the food (both in the formal dining room and the casual dining) to be better on Royal Carribean.

We have never cruised either, but we are going on a 4 day cruise to the Bahamas in October through Royal Caribbean. I am so excited! My sister and her husband have been cruising several times and steered us toward RC instead of Carnival.

RCCL can have good deals if you keep your eye open, and often the prices drop so they call you or let you know that you can get an upgrade of a room at no charge. that just happened to me on my last cruise 3 weeks ago.

i was just on the Mariner of the Seas, my 3rd cruise all with RC. as ive never been on carnival, ive heard many people on my last cruise say RC is better - with better food and service.

i have heard that carnival has a younger crowd and better shows if youre looking for something like a vegas show.

the crowd is older on RC, but still so much fun. to each their own, but being 24 i rather hang out with adults and older people than 18-21 year olds who are insane and obnoxous. it depends on your personality - but i thought meeting with older people was a lot of fun and they had such great stories to share. they still participate in so many events - things like the sexy man contest and belly flop were a hit!

overall, id say RC is more of a luxury cruise liner. their ships are INCREDIBLE. and if service is huge, definitely go with RC!

We just got back from a Royal Carribean crusise to Nassau and it was vey nice. I woudl say though that it looked mostly like an older crowd. The service it great, but if you want to be with a yonger crowd, you might be happier on Carnival.

Take dramamine the night before to get it in your system if you have any trouble with sea sickness, it helps to start it ahead of time!

@cr6zy: That is AMAZING! I hope our cruise is as much fun!

I'm obviously partial to Carnival. We're doing a wedding cruise/family reunion with them since they're our local cruiseline and my entire family enjoys their atmosphere and food. We are a mixed crowd of 2 years old up through Grams in her 70's and everyone has a good time. The kids are usually always in Camp Carnival and hardly seen and the clientele tends to be on the younger (mid-20's, early 30's) side of life so there's loads of night life.

I have been on Carnival and RC many times, and I agree that RC is nicer- better food, nicer ships, calmer crowd, etc. As far as the age and atmosphere of the other guests goes, I think that depends more on the timing and location of the cruise. A Caribbean cruise during Spring Break, or during the summer, will be a younger crowd (lots of college kids and families w school aged children) and a Transatlantic cruise in October is going to be more geriatric. I've seen some crazy partying on both cruise lines, and Ive never been on a ship where there wasn't a party alternative.

I've sailed with both and the "feel" of each is very different. Carnival is more family friendly with a lot of kids and kid-targeted activities. I feel that Royal Carribean is a bit more sophisticatred had far fewer children (and those that were there were older). I also found that RC had better service, better food, better amenities (for adults), better ships and better entertainment. I also think RC itineraries are better. My vote (especially for a honeymoon) goes to RC. I would like to mention that my parents did an anniversary cruise on Celebrity and that is their new favorite - to quote my mom "It's like RC but swankier" (the two cruise lines are related).
