- Wedding: May 2014 - Beach
Hello Bees 🙂 I need your help once again. Since I’m not from the US( i never been) and i ll be coming on my honeymoon. We’ll be staying for a week in Los angeles and 3 days in Vegas (yaay excited). There are just too many hotel options. Our budget for the 7 days in La are around 1800 $ so for 7 days thats 255 per night. I know you might think wow there’s a lot but the problem is after adding the almost 15 % taxes the prices go way out of budget.
So does anyone have hotel recommendations in LA for about 1800 $ (taxes included)?and where are the best places to stay as a tourist? hollywood, beverly hills, venice beach or downtown maybe?
Thank you all bees

@myweddingbee: I recently used airbnb.com while staying in LA. There were much more affordable options if you’re willing to look into it. My favorite part of LA is probably Santa Monica.

@myweddingbee: Downtown is undergoing a revitalization, but many parts of it are still creepy esp. at night. I would not recommend downtown. (Plus the cool stuff to see in downtown you can do in a day trip).
If you’re trying to save money Beverly Hills is not the place to go. It’s awesome to visit, but again you can pretty much do that during the day.
For fun boutique hotels check out the Santa Monica area, many of the places are pricy but great deals can be found.
If you’re willing to go a bit further out try the valley, Burbank and the such. You’ll still have Metro access in areas which is useful.

@myweddingbee: Definitely check airbnb.com or vrbo.com – they are secure and offer great alternatives to expensive hotels!
Also, check hotwire hot rates where you book the hotel star level in a general area and don’t find out the hotel until after you secure the booking.
I’ve done that in Vegas and Portland many times and saved a fortune!

@myweddingbee: Have you already booked your flights? You don’t need 7 days to explore LA, 3 – 4 is enough. That can save you a bit on hotel costs. I also agree with everyone else on using Airbnb. LA area can be expensive since real estate is expensive. Santa Monica is a great area to be near, Downtown can be kind of dead. You should also make sure you have a car to get around. If you are comfortable driving longer, there are cheap hotels in Orange County. You’ll need about 1 hr to drive into LA and areas north of LA.
