Can you just give them a copy of your wedding certificate as proof?

I don’t think you can do that.  Not everyone changes their name, and your ticket has to have your legal name.  In the past I think they’ve let this slide, but I’m pretty sure the new TSA regulations would not allow it.  I would *def* at least check with the ticket agency…but I kind of think you’ll need to change or rebook your ticket.

These are the new rules.  They don’t say anything about married names, but I think if you don’t change beforehand your best outcome is that you get lucky with a TSA agent.  It sounds like the decision will be pretty subjective.  This is something *I* would definitely not want to count on though.  I don’t know if you’ve flown much recently, but in some airports they are really cracking down on these kinds of regulations.

Make sure you get that in writing. Sometimes just b/c one person says it doesn’t mean the person at the counter that day will know it! Get a fax that specifically says it’s ok. Seriously, how many times does one person say one thing and the manager says "oh they don’t know what they’re talking about?"

Are you traveling internationally? If you are, definitely bring all the right paperwork because your passport will be in your old name and that causes lots of issues with TSA.

I booked in my maiden name just to be sure. In fact, I booked the whole trip for us and we were Mr. and Mrs. My Last Name which was funny =]

I didn’t change my name on my license for a long time after I got married the first time (like it took me three years to do it).  I always booked my ticket in my married name and used my wedding certificate (just carried a copy in my purse all the time) or my SS card and the airlines never had a problem – even post 9/11.

FI did this to me as well! I about had a frickin’ heart attack! He called and changed the reservation to my current name. Because he did it so quickly after he made the reservation, expedia didn’t charge him the name change fee, but unfortunately he DID incur a rate hike when he booked my ticket the next day.

I didn’t want to risk anything on the day, so I’m glad we changed it back to my name! I will say I am a worrywart, though, so you’ll probably be just fine.

you probably need to change it back!

I don’t think you’ll get an offical copy of marriage license until several weeks after the wedding…and you definitely don’t want to deal with the drama of the name change right before you honeymoon.  I would get this changed as quickly as possible if you can!
