Baby tiger cubs at Myrtle Beach, free museums in DC, Napa Valley wineries, horseback riding in the Grand Canyon, helicopter tours in Alaska, New Orleans, Montreal Canada, San Diego/ San Francisco, Arcadia National Park in Maine, Cape Cod (MA), Cancun Mexico, Breezes Bahamas all-inclusive resort, Puerto Rico, Newfoundland Canada, tour plantations in Georgia

My parents wanted a low-key vacation a few years ago. They rented a car and drove around the Dakotas, Yellowstone, Colorado areas just sightseeing, talking to locals in bars to figure out what to do/see and stayed in different motels. No itinerary, just went with the flow. They say it was the most relaxing and fun vacation they have ever been on.

I know you said no Florida, but I adore Amelia Island.  We go every year and spend a week on the plantation.  It is so intimate and relaxing, you should check it out.

if you go to the grand canyon you could also visit sedona, az and scottsdale, az.  There is a national forest (tonto national forest) near scottsdale that I really enjoyed driving through.  And Sedona has some beautiful canyons too.

I’ve heard great things about the Napa/Sonoma wineries too.

You could go out West and drive through some of the National Parks  – Rocky Mountain, Glacier, Yellowstone, and Yosemite are all beautiful.

I HIGHLY recommend Amelia Island!!! My Fiance’s family has had a home there since the early 1900’s and it;s tradition to spend every summer there. I have been twice now…this last year we stayed for 3 months. There home is on the beach 1/2 mile from the Ritz Carlton. I recommend both The Plantaion and The Ritz for hotels. Both are very romantic! You can ride horses on the beach, relax in the spa, relax on the beach or pool side, down town is ADORABLE, you can take a boat over to Cumberland Island, GA and see the wild horses running on the beach, take a tour of the Dungenuess Mansion. May is when the Sea turtles begin coming ashore to lay their eggs. This last summer we witnessed 4 sea turtles laying eggs and 5 nests hatching. THE MOST AMAZING THING TO WITNESS! The water is warm and shallow. They even discovered an old Spanish Gallion that was sunk just off the South end. They found a ton of buried treasure! It is one of my favorite places in the US!

HIGH RECOMENDATIONS!!!! Plus it’s where we got engaged last 4th of july in front of the Ritz 😉

Good Luck ” )

Amelia Island sounds really romantic and beautiful.

I would also like to add Southern and/or Mid-California to the list….you could visit San Diego Zoo, Sea World (in San Diego), LaJolla, Monterey Bay Aquarium, beautiful Carmel, and/or San Fransisco.  There are a ton of beaches that you could visit as well, but you have to keep in mind that the water is cooler than the Gulf or Atlantic.

Here are a few pics I just had to share:

Have FUN deciding!

My fiance and I are going to Texas. My dad lives there and neither one of us have been there, so we decided to go there because we are on a low budget too. You could look up a few things that my dad had me look up, ummm 6th street in Galviston Texas, ummm the river walk in texas. There are a few really amazing sites that we found too! Hope this helps!

Me and my fiance are on a tight budget as well, however, we found some secluded cabins in the Smokey Mts which ended up being perfect. Look up Hidden Creek Cabins in Bryson City, NC. They are cheap! You are secluded from everyone and there is a ton of stuff to do if you like the outdoors!

Good LUCK!!
