We have no idea what to do for our honeymoon. We’re getting married July 13, 2013. We’re looking for something under $2500 if possible, but would like to travel outside the US. We were interested in the Shiprocked cruise, but it looks like its not scheduled until January 2014. We’re interested in seeing the Mayan Ruins or something like that with history, but I haven’t found anything in our price range yet. We don’t really want to stay in a hotel the whole time. We want to do/see once in a lifetime type things, but how do you do that on our budget? Any advice is definitely appreciated.

For me, in July I would head north – not south! How do you feel about Canada? Montreal is supposed to be amazing. And Toronto is a fantastic city! There are great parks and lots of opportunity for adventure. And you could camp part of the time if you don’t want to be in a hotel all the time.

ooh i love helping people plan trips! sounds a bit odd i know, but i think id actually qiute enjoy being a travel agent.
anyway, is there an international airport near you, or you need a domestic flight? if you can find a cheaper flight seperately you could look for a tour
what if you did something like this
and then if you survived the heat you could try for a day or two at all inclusive at the beach? mexico city wouldnt be that hot, its only cancun way which will have strong sun.
if you do the 3* hotels (instead of 5 star) that one works out at 533 dollars pp
but then youd have to find cheap flights. not impossible, but tricky. any airmiles or anything that could help you with that?!
there are some reasonably cheap domestic airlines within mexico if you dont like structured tours – eg vivaaerobus, and the bus system is second to none.
the problem with cruises to mexico is often its hard to take full day tours (like the chichen itza ruins) as theyre very long
ok it seems priceline.com has return flights from around 550 dollars pp from louisville kentucky to cancun(thats the right state right? even if not the right airport) im english so i dont know much about your state or the website!!
and to mex city from another city (lexington?) its around 740 dollars pp
so could be doable?

@ashliewitt: Have you looked on Costco for cruises? We booked a vacation on Costco last year to go on a Carribean cruise on Celebrity. Pretty reasonable pricing; I think it was around $400 for an inside cabin and a bit more for the outside cabin. You can definitely keep it under $2500 including airfare! We stopped at 4 ports of call and one of them offered excursions to ruins. (Maya Riviera?)

@JenGirl: Canada is in the mix too. Niagra Falls would be cool. And the fiance is a big hockey fan too, but I don’t know about there being a game during that time. We don’t really wanna do camping, because we do a lot of that here in Kentucky. We kind of live in the sticks! lol

@newname_99: We would need to drive to Lexington or Louisville and then to an international, I think. We’ve never flown before . How are the 3 star hotels? We don’t need top of the line, but we still want something nice.
Wherever we go, we’d definitely want to get in on tours. I’m kind of wanting to swim with dolphins or something too! lol

Oh & I didn’t realize I have 2 different usernames for this. For my original post I used my mobile and apparently an old one was saved in there. Ha!

@ashliewitt: I just did a quick search on Carnival for cruises that go to Cozumel or Belize in July and they seem to be very affordable if you choose an inside cabin or one with a window (my choice). FI and I are already planning an anniversary trip for May 2014 on a 7-day cruise so we get to experence the Ruins (along with other destinations, of course) and I’ve done a lot of research on it. Just take a look at their website and with airfare included (out of Charleston, WV), you could easily do a honeymoon for under $2,000. That price doesn’t include any excursions but perhaps you could save some more and book those later? Hope this helps!
