I would try talking to the timeshare representatives first because they are often booked very well in advance. That may narrow down the “when.” As far as how long, it really is up to you and how much time you have to be away. I personally would take the free honeymoon and call it done. And perhaps go on vacation somewhere else down the road. But if money is no problem to you, then why not enjoy your honeymoon for as long as you can! Good luck!

I agree with the above poster – you need to talk to a time share rep before you decide on anything.  You may be limited as to when you can use the time share (certain weeks or months).  Additionally  there may not even be an option to pay for an additional week.

WannaBeeMrsB:  I went to Riviera Maya with my SO this past July, which I think is where Secrets Maroma is, and the weather was great! It’s hot, but it’s not so bad. It’s Mexico, so it’s breezy even in the heat. We had the time of our lives, not a complaint to be had, and both of us travel quite frequently.

You should go in the summer. My fiance and I went to Cabo around August. It was hot, but we still had so much fun & it was GORGEOUS! Our resort had AC everywhere & the only time we were really sweating a lot was when we took a tour around the city. Just be sure to check the weather for rainy seasons.

I’ve been to Excellence Riviera Cancun (same general area in Mexico) in September, and I LOVED it. I’ve done Mexico in December, and I find I much prefer the weather in early fall (so you’d probably be good in July).

With Secrets, you’re almost definitely going to have good air conditioning in the rooms, and a few restaurants. So you can be toasty warm at the beach, and have plenty of places to cool off!

Another option in terms of extending is doing one week at Secrets, and then going to another hotel in the area for the second week. I’m a HUGE fan of the Excellence resorts (I’ve done Excellence Riviera Cancun, and am going to Excellence Playa Mujeres in December). You could also contact Secrets, and see if they’d do free transport to a different Secrets hotel for week two (that way you get to change things up, and experience two amazing hotels).

WannaBeeMrsB:  Also, if you look at weather reports in July, it will say rain. The day before our trip we looked at the forecast, each day it said there would be rain. Never rained once. People who lived there told us that the forecast always says rain, but it’s usually off the coast.
