I'm also getting married in May and going to a Caribbean Island for my honeymoon.
VIEQUES!!
I'm so excited to go there. We're doing 8 nights for $3,000. That's flights, a private home, food and everything else we are hoping to accomplish. There are no all-inclusives on the island as far as I know. You might want to check Hix House though. This is as private as you can get on the Caribbean. The island is only 10 miles long. There are a ton of beaches to explore and it is part of the US...so NO PASSPORT!
From what you described, I really think this place would be perfect for you. just put Vieques into a google search and you'll find plenty of information about it.
Good luck.
St. John is a beautiful island with a lot of things to do, pristine beaches, and a lot of affordable options.
Have you considered a cruise?
We are going in March to jamaica for our engagi-moon (where we'll officially get engaged) and found an incredible deal on bookit.com . We will be staying in a one bedroom romance room /villa suite at the Grand Palladium Lady Hamilton.
It's an incredible price and we spoke to several travel agents that my guy knows and they said it's a great bang for your buck and very secluded. 20 min outside of Montego Bay in Lucea. There is a villa only section which is just for adults and has its own adults only pool. They loved the food, and although the resort is very very large, it has an intimate feel and the fact that Lucea is 20 minutes away from Montego Bay gives that "you're all alone in paradise" feel.
We have NO IDEA where we'll honeymoon at however..lol! There are zipline adventures, rafting and kayaking, historical tours, and tours to sample great rum and blue mountain coffee in Jamaica plus visits to Bob Marley's birthplace and gorgeous waterfalls to climb and rainforest to explore.
I've been to Jamaica twice, once as a stop for a cruise and another time for a week. I personally didn't enjoy it because it's a fairly poor island, so anytime you leave the resort people are mobbing you to buy things. As for U.S. virgin islands, St. Thomas is a nice place. Somewhere else to consider is St. Martin. It's a neat place to visit because half the island is French and the other half is Dutch. They also have all the activities that you mentioned.
Based on all the thigns you want to do, I would recomment Costa Rica. Check out Mrs. Coconut's post about her honeymoon. I believe she has two.
Good luck. I would also look into St. Lucia, St. Marteen, Aruba or Grand Cayman.
Hi!
I second the cruise option! My fiance and I went on a cruise 2 years ago and I think it would have been an amazing honeymoon! Life on the cruiseship isn't that great honestly but...because you want to be doing things on your honeymoon you will wake up get off the boat, spend the day doing amazing things, come back to the boat and get pretty for dinner, eat some drinks, and watch the stars or bed. Perfect, fun, and romantic if you ask me!
We went to San Juan, St. Thomas, Barbados, Antiqua, Dominica, St. Lucia.
St. Thomas and Barbados we took a cab to the beach and relaxed all day. Barbados I already knew a beach where there were no tourists and it was very relaxing.
Antiqua, did a catamaran, snorkling, and hike with a company we found not through the cruise ship. AMAZING.
Dominica, emailing a tour guide not through the cruise ship and went on a 3 hour hike into the rainforest to a waterfall in the middle...small other hikes to cool spots too. AMAZING.
St. Lucia, we kayaked through the boat...would not do that again...
I really suggest this and if you want more details feel free to PM me.
Thank you all for your auggestions! I am going to look into these places. St. Lucia looks amazing and Jamaica looks fun...
I agree with the Costa Rica suggestion!!! May is a one of the nicest months there and there is so much to do. If you wanted romantic and secluded, you just can't best this AI we found ..... www.mytropicalhoneymoon.com
Have fun wherever u land!
We were going to go to belize...
http://www.robertsgrove.com/html/private_islands.html
They have a private island you spend soem of yoru stay on too...
We decided to go much cheaper and go to Canada...not super thrilled but at least we're going somewhere...
My wedding is in St. Martin and we will honeymoon there as well for a week after....Great beaches, food and nightlife!!! Check it out!!!
I've also done a cruise similar to what Lizzy has done above, as well as a few other cruises, so I've been to a lot of the islands in the Caribbean! Based on your description of what you are looking for, I would highly suggest Dominica (http://www.dominica.dm/site/index.cfm). I've been there 2x, each time for only 1 day, and I think one day I'd like to go back for a week! Dominica is a small island, good for hiking (a great hiking tour guide is Levi of Bumpiing Tours), swimming/snorkeling/diving, and relaxing! It's not very commercialized and less developed as some of the other islands mentioned, and therefore also much more secluded!
Good luck with your search!

I am getting married in May and we can't seem to make a decision on our Honeymoon spot.
We know we want:An island in the CaribbeanOffers adventure (hiking, zip lining, snorkeling, etc.) and relaxationNot a huge, mega resort - looking for a more romantic, secluded feelNot $800 a night (overly pricey)Willing to spend a few nights one place and then switch
So far we found Rockhouse and Swept Away in Jamaica, but also are looking into going to US Virgin Islands, Antigua or BVI.
Anyone have any suggestions or been to any of the islands above? How are all inclusives?
We need to book this soon!!
Thanks!
