Have you looked into Sandals? We went to St. Lucia and absolutely loved it..,highly recommend it..beautiful Island =)
I went to Turks and Caicos last year and it was absolutely amazing! Chrystal clear, warm water, fine white sand and so much sun. Would definately recommend it! We stayed at the Beaches resort and it was great. The food was to die for. However, it was a family resort, and depending on your honeymoon vision, you might not want childrn running around.
My bf and I went to a couple places. I wasn't a honeymoon, but stil awesome.
Puerto Rico just outside of San Juan at La Concha Renaissance (part of Marriott)
was beautiful. The beach was also nice, but the resort was just great. The drinks were OUT OF THIS WORLD!
the following year we went to Cayman Islands at a Marriott again.
The resort was nice, but the best part was the crystal clear water and amazing snorkling!!!!!
Good luck in chosing!
I should also add we would prefer not to do Mexico (FI has been to a few places in Mexico) or the Dominican Republic (FIs friend and her husband are going and I don't want to have to plan any hanging out with them).
@bride2bejc: I am assuming you went to a Sandals resort there? Which one (if there are more than one)? I looked into the Couples resort line (mostly in Jamaica I think) and was really impressed with everything they offered especially the included excursions. Did you feel like Sandals included a lot of extras, what were you most impressed with?
@Cdoonan: As of now I am leaning towards adults/couples only but I am curious to get others opinions. Did you feel like there were a lot of kids and families, were they relatively controlled or were there kids running and screaming in the pools?
@kmsw: I did a lot of research on PR, I have coworkers from there that insisted it was the best place to visit. However, I didn't really find much as far as all-inclusive goes. Was your resort all-inclusive? If it wasn't how much extra did you spend once you were there on food/drinks. FI's favorite part of Mexico was the fact that he could always have a drink in hand and I am afraid we are going to end up with a really shocking bill by the end of the week if we don't do all-inclusive.
Yup we stayed at Sandals La Toc, but we also visited one of the other Sandals on St. Lucia, the Sandals Grande, while on our trip. I would recommend either one, but for a better safe swimming beach, I would recommend the Sandals Grande.
As far as 'extras', they gave us some freebies, which included a bottle of champage & chocolate covered strawberries. The food at Sandals was wonderful, and we liked that the chaise floats for the pool. Even the nightly entertainment was great. Oh and we loved the 'no tipping' rule..that was for real.. we tried to tip on numerous occasions and they ( waiters, bartenders) would not take $ from us!
Let me know if you have any specific questions =)
ETA: Just re-read your post to me, they didn't offer any excursions that we knew of (that would have been awesome though!!)...they can get pricey! But we still never felt like we overpaid for any part of our stay at Sandals.
There were a lot of young kids, but I don't remember ever being annoyed by them. There is a little 50's style diner with make your own ice cream, and a pool with slides and a lazy river where most of the families and children were. The resort was gorgeous, and so big! It has something like 16 restaraunts, 5 pools, a lazy river, nightly entertainment, 2 big waterslides, a surf simulator, definately check out the website! The only thing that I found weird about it was how late some of the kids were up! And like I said earlier, the food was probably the best I have ever had.
we did not have all inclusive in PR, and it does get pretty pricey ($12 - $15 / mixed drink)
In Cayman, we had all-inclusive though. We gained 10 lbs in a week ;-)
Both places are great!
This ear we are thinking about St. Johns Westin, it's right on a national-forest park and it's supposed to be breath taking!
I am not married yet, but we just came back from a trip from Punta Cana. The name of it was the Grand palladium (im not sure if I spelt it right), but we upgraded our room and somehow ended up in the Honeymoon suite since it was available, and I couldnt say enough nice things about it, there was two types, one was right on the beach and the other one was a swim up. The room was very nice, and clean, the people there are soo friendly, the weather is amazing, food is amazing like I said I just can't say enough good things lol.
@alyssa742: Was your room the swim up? If so was it worth getting?
We went to Couples Swept Away in Negril Jamaica for our honeymoon. We were there for 9 days/8 nights....all inclusive for under $4k, plus we got insurance too, in case of bad weather...which there wasn't. It was adults only, and actually couples only, so no singles. Food & drinks were amazing, not to mention one of the most beautiful beaches in the world (it was literally voted that)! It was amazing & we def plan on going back someday!
@cherrycoke: That is the one I really wanted to go to and it is booked for the time we wanted to go! I am really dissapointed because I read so many amazing reviews just like yours. Couples Tower Isle is the only Couples resort in Jamaica that isn't full that week, I am close to booking it but there are a few things that are holding me back. The biggest thing is that Negril is the beach to be at in Jamaica and Tower Isle is in Ochos Rios. I am sure it will still be gorgeous but after reading all the reviews about Negril and CSA I am afraid I will be dissapointed.
@meginstl: I don't think you will be disappointed, but I haven't been to Ocho Rios so I can't really say... all I know is Negril WAS beautiful. You should check on the Couples website - there is a board on there and you see what people are saying about Tower Isle. You can always go to Negril another time :) or maybe you could take a day trip to Negril?
Another question I have is concerning travel agents. I have discovered the awesomeness that is cheapcarribean.com! I also have contacted a local travel agent and her prices so far have been pretty close to cheapcarribean, is there a benefit to using a travel agent?
@meginstl: We are getting married at Couples Swept Away in Negril. We've never been before, so if you do go, let me know how it is!
We are going to the new Westin Playa Cochal is Costa Rica. It is all-inclusive and we can't wait! The resort looks amazing. A PP also mentioned the Westin St. John, it is not all-inclusive but it is fabulous. I actually got engaged in St. John :)
We booked 5 nights at Couples Tower Isle in Jamaica, thanks for your help! 11 days to go, so excited!
@meginstl: Yes! You will LOVE couples!! Make sure you let us know how you liked it when you get back!

We get married in 21 days (!) and have finally gotten around to planning a honeymoon... We want to go to Europe but are putting that off until next summer/early-fall so we can ensure nice weather. I still really want to do a traditional honeymoon right after the wedding and FI voted for something tropical. The original plan was to do something short and cost effective, 3 or 4 days in the Carribean. Now it turns out we have a little extra money to play with so... we are thinking a week and the more I research the more the options seem endless. I can't make up my mind because everything sounds so amazing!!!
I have read a ton of WB honeymoon posts but a lot are a few years old so I am wondering where 2011 brides went and their opinions. Or if you are also a November/December bride where do you plan to go? We have passports so our only requirement is all-inclusive and probably not over 4k.
Any help would be much appreciated, even negative reviews of locations or resorts will be helpful!
