What about Barbados? It seems to be in an odd area that gets beautiful weather pretty much all of the time. It's almost always around 30 degrees celcius (~86 F) and usually has a nice cooling rain shower in the afternoon.
It almost never has hurricanes. See this article: http://www.barbadosweather.org/article-can-barbados-be-hit.php
or just the most relevent quote: "If a hurricane forms to the east of Barbados, there is a 90 per cent probability that it will pass to the north of the island and this is because of the Coriolis Force".
Plus, it's very safe and the Bajans are wonderfully nice people.
Have you looke at Puerto Rico? You'd be able to stay for 10 days on that budget and it's a short flight and the beaches are beautiful. I love this hotel http://www.wyndhamriomar.com/
The water is crystal clear and great for snorkeling. You should do one of the sailing tours if you decide to go they're a lot of fun.
I know its not "exotic" but look at this place that Miss Snow Cone went. Sooo awesome and its on the beach :-)

I don't think you are crazy. Hurricanes may be a small percentage risk - but if they happen to you it is 100% Why risk your honeymoon right? Have you considered Costa Rica? It is out of the hurricane zone, but you don't have to give up the tropics! This place has much of what you want and they will work with you on your budget.

Good luck!
I think Aruba typically has very steady and beautiful weather as well. Flying from NYC, I don't think it's impossible to do it in your budget.
since you are in NYC, why not forego the flights and just take a cruise from there! You can either go to the Bahamas or Bermuda. They are not technically Caribbean, but very beachy.

Hi all! I just starting looking into planning our honeymoon, and I need some help! My fiance and I are getting married on August 18, 2012. My original idea was that we would go to Fiji or French Polynesia, but after looking at our budget, there's no way we can afford it. Turns out our budget is about $3000 total (airfare included, flying from NYC). We'd love to go somewhere exotic and beachy, and we'd like a longer honeymoon (8-10 days). Any ideas? I know the Caribbean is inexpensive that time of year, but I'm terrified of hurricanes and couldn't handle dealing with the risk that our honeymoon will get destroyed by weather. (And feel free to tell me I'm crazy and looking for something that doesn't exist.) Thanks in advance!
