Top two choices so far are hawaii or costa rica. But I feel like we're far enough away I'm not too worried about it. We haven't really done hardcore research yet. :)
costa rica is sooooooooooo wonderful!! :)
we want to have our flights booked 6 months in advance because we are going to pay for it with rewards points. we had to book our last trip 6 1/2 months in advanced because there were only a few available. i have the PICKIEST fiance when it comes to travelling--the only reason we agreed on Honduras so quickly is because i've had tons of friends go there.
we discussed it last night and came up with Panama, Aruba, and Anguilla. i'm going to let him research those for the next month or two and see what happens. if we went to panama, i know we'd fly into costa rica and stay a day or two, which would be kind of cool, since we got engaged there.
Since I'm a teacher, we are going to postpone our "real" honeymoon until July. We live in Massachusetts, so we are planning to go up north to a mountain lodge for a couple nights right after the wedding though.
Were going on a Disney cruise to the Bahammas & Castaway Cay.
My FI are getting married in NC. Our honeymoon is in the Smoky Mountains. Cabin at a resort in Gatlinburg, TN. I had called up before booking it and they are right off a main road and no issues if there is snow.
Future Mrs. JJ, where in NC are you getting married? We are getting married in Asheville! I would make sure to check out all the possible routes to get to Gatlinburg, roads through the GSMNP can be closed in the winter if the weather is bad. I live about an hour east of Asheville, and last winter, it snowed almost every weekend, which is why we are probably going to get a hotel in Asheville near our venue JUST in case it does snow!
@starstayfar: I am getting married in Benson. I will be sure to look up alternate routes. Thanks for the info.
We are going to the Dominican Republic for our honeymoon- its technically the beginning of March as we are leaving on Feb. 28th. Heard the weather is beautiful there in the winter months!
We're getting married in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan in the snow and honeymooning in Hawaii a couple of days later. It's a lovely wedding present from his parents. :)
@Gamer: where in Hawaii will you be?
I started my own thread in the honeymoons board bc I was so excited... but I'll post here too: we booked our honeymoon last night! 6 nights in Kauai (actually in March since our wedding is so late in the month and we need to take 1 week between). I am crazy excited :)
so many feb brides in NC! im in Charlotte!
so excited for everyone!!
we havent booked yet but we are thinking costa rica or somewhere waaaaaay south in the caribbean...i want warmth! we went to the bahamas early march this past year and it was warm enough but as the sun went down i had to throw on a jacket and at night i was in jeans and a sweater. didnt ruin the vacay but i want something warmer this time especially since it will be the middle of february
We are thinking Bermuda. We want someplace that doesn't take forever to get to!
@arclee: Haha--you and I are date twins, and I am getting married in Bermuda! Oh, and I live in the DC area too--what a coincidence! My fiance and I have agreed we won't be honeymooning on Bermuda, because we want our family members to be able to stay a few days to enjoy the island. We took a vacation there last year, which is why it came to mind when we were planning our destination wedding. Just a note (which you probably already know)--Bermuda is not in the Caribbean, so the temps there in late Feb/early March average around a high of 65-67 degrees. But it is such a gorgeous place, who cares if you can't swim? :)
Were getting married in September so were going to do a week of camping and fishing right after. Then the end of January were going to go Bahamas. Mostly likely the Sandles Resort. Were super excited!
@srast: Well hello there, date-twin! So funny. I actually had no idea what the temperature would be exactly, but I'm not surprised. I just don't want to be on a plane for a long time! We actually haven't booked the honeymoon yet, because our date might have to get pushed back 2 weeks to accomodate extra training for FI (he's in the army). Have any recommendations on where to stay in Bermuda?
We're getting married Sept. 2011, but we're postponing the honeymoon until Jan/Feb. We're getting married in VT so we're staying for a few days after the wedding, but we wanted to be able to take a trip somewhere warm in the winter. We have basically narrowed it down - either St. Lucia or Aruba. I don't know what the deciding factor will be!
We just booked a cruise out of Port Canaveral, FL. Funny, it stops @ Roatan & Belize, Honduras.
Since this is my thread, I should probably update everyone on what we decided...
We're going to Roatan, Honduras!
We had pretty much taken Roatan off of the list and decided we were going with Zoetry, in Cancun. But we REALLY wanted to go to Honduras, so we started checking for flights out of Houston and Dallas.
So now we are getting married on a Saturday. We are driving to the Houston airport Sunday night, leaving Austin around 9pm for our 4:30am flight out of IAH on Monday. That's how much we want to go to Honduras. Crazy? Yes. But we're very happy with our choice :)
@arclee: On our vacation to Bermuda we stayed at the 9 Beaches resort which we loved. Unfortunately I think it's under renovation until next summer, so that may not be an option for you. For our wedding we're looking at hotels/resorts near the main city of Hamilton, or in the town of St. George's. I have heard that Elbow Beach is a little pricey, but totally worth it. My parents have stayed at Rosedon in Hamilton a few times. It's a renovated historic mansion with only 44 rooms. The great thing about hotels in Bermuda is that most of them offer a meal plan, so breakfast (and sometimes more) is included in your hotel bill! Good luck with your honeymoon shopping! :)
How neat! I'm taking a Caribbean cruise in Feb 2011 for my honeymoon and one of our stops is Roatan! :)
Hi Bees! We have it narrowed down to Turks and Caicos or St. John! Yay for sitting on a beach in February!
Just booked our honeymoon! We are going on a cruise out of Miami! The stops are Grand Caymen, Roatan, Belize and Cozumel. Plus, we arriving to Florida four days early to relax at a beach house before we cruise out!
@KrystalS- are you on the Valor or Glory? We are on the Valor leaving Feb 20th...
We're honeymooning in a small cabin in Gatlinburg, too. I absolutely love it during the winter! So pretty & romantic!! :)
We're trying to see if we could do Thailand, but so far we're waiting on money stuff to really research and decide. I've lived in Costa Rica (and Panama) so if you want suggestions let me know - they're both beautiful!
We're going to Cancun! My parents had a free week at a resort and they gave it to us. I can't wait. I keep on forgetting that I get to go on an awesome vacation after the wedding!
We are heading to Cabo now (we had the hardest time deciding!) . Can't wait!
Just bought our flights to Thailand! No hotels or anything booked yet, but I'm SO excited!
We ended up going with Jamaica! Couples Swept Away - sooooo pumped - only a few more weeks!

Anyone chosen where they will have their winter honeymoon yet?
We thought we had chosen a destination and that it was an easy decision--Roatan, Honduras. Now that the flight schedules are out, turns out, getting into Hondruas, not so easy! We have to leave on Monday, due to so many people from out of town wanting to visit on Sunday, and the only flights there will take 17 hours there, and 17 hours back. Um, no. So now we are moving on to plan B which is.......starting from scratch!
So...anyone started the research? Find anything good?
