Can you go somewhere that won't be so hot in August or are you set on Spain or Italy?
You could go to a Scandinavian country like Denmark, Sweden, or Norway. They're reasonably far north, so they shouldn't be quite so hot.
Or, you could go somewhere mountainous like France, Switzerland, or Austria and stay in a high mountain town. The altitude will mean that it would be much cooler there.
What about Croatia? I hear the beaches there are gorgeous, I'm not sure what the temps in August are like though.

dont know whether to go to Italy or somewhere spanish like tenerife?? neither of us like flying for lengthy periods and as we are going in august its going to be boiling!!! HELP
