My Fi and I decided that we wanted to go to Belize for our honeymoon. We found a really great resort with a GREAT honeymoon package. My questions is has anyone ever been? When we told our family of our idea we got some mixed reactions, so I was just wondering if anyone as had any experience here? Thanks!

I actually was also worried about saftey. I have an uncle has some pretty high clerance and works for the goverment. He did some research for me and told me that its just as safe as going to any carribean island or Costa Rica. The really dont target Americans and as long as you use some common sense that we should be fine, however id really love to hear anyones storys who have actually been there.

We thought about Belize as well but the whole safety thing had me concerned as well. Started looking at Costa Rica and found that CR has more to offer us so we are going there instead. The selling point was the volcano. CR has one, Belize doesn’t so that tipped the scales for us, lol.

I have friends who went to Belize on vacation and had a blast. My Fiance and I are planning to go there for our honeymoon. I have not heard anything negative about it.

have been to Belize and if you stay at your resort and within its confines, you should be fine. I did a cave tour and we did have a very organized tour but we did have to go through Belize City and that place is straight up one of the worst third-world cities I have ever seen. It’s horrible. On the bright side, you know that song by Madonna “La Isla Bonita”? It was written about San Pedro (Ambergris Caye), Belize which is an island off the mainland of Belize that is..well bonita! Lots of tourists go there for diving purposes.

@Misserz0210: We aren’t staying in one spot. Flying into San Jose and staying there a night, then off to Monteverde for a few nights to zipline the cloud forest, then a few nights at Arenal volcano to mountainbike and hike and relax in the hot springs, then a few nights at Manual Antonio where we are scuba diving and white water rafting and hanging on a beach, then a night in San Jose before we fly back.
Gecko Trails is doing our trip. Once we book our airfare they will put together a more detailed trip for us.

Belize is awesome! It’s not dangerous at all, except maybe late night in some dark alley in a big city – but that’s true for anywhere. its kinda pricey for a Central American country, but if you’re looking at an inclusive resort that probably doesn’t apply (vs staying in hostels, etc). If you like to snorkel or dive, it’s amazing there!!

We took a Norwegian cruise that Belize was one of the ports. We loved it. Just don’t go off by yourselves. There are many great resorts and government licensed tour groups. It’s a very beautiful place.

Yes! I loved Belize. It’s very small and easy to navigate on your own by car, there’s like 4 main roads in the country – We kept bumping into the same travelers in different locales which was fun. Since its English speaking, that also makes things easy for American tourists. We went to Caye Caulker, the San Ignacio area, and Placencia. There’s so much to see and do – the ATM tour is a must.
There was one incident of a tourist bus getting robbed near the Caracol ruins when we were there. (We were actually at the ruins when it happened!) There was no violence, but the tourists were made to give over all valuables (jewelry, cameras, shoes even). But that was almost four years ago, and at the time the locals said nothing like that had happened for years prior. Caracol is very close to the Nicaraguan border. I would not travel with your wedding ring, and after that we switched our camera card every other day.
