We have finally chosen our honeymoon destination for the first two weeks of May- the southern coast of Spain! It is the perfect location- beach and spa available and plenty of local beauty and color.
We will be staying at a resort for one week outside of Marbella and will be choosing another hotel for the other week.
Has anyone travelled in this area? Can you provide any tips or ideas of what to see/how to best experience Costa Del Sol?
Thank you in advance for your help!

Hey Em- I spent two weeks there last October. It’s a beautiful part of Spain rich in culture. It’s a very relaxing area with tons of amazing Riojas- and some places you definitely shouldn’t miss would include:
Ronda – I believe this is where the art of Bullfighting started… if not, there’s a gorgeous, still in use ring in the middle of this wonderful, small little village.
Granada- Alhambra. If I can remember correctly, this is one of the 7 wonders of the world. If not, it seriously should be. A wonderful Moorish palace that no pictures have done justice to. Simply stunning and probably the highlight of my trip.
Morocco is probably on your list and is of course a ‘must see’ but to be honest, you’re going to have to travel past Tangiers- which I found to be HIGHLY disappointing. To get that sexy, exotic, fabulous part of the country, you’re going to have to travel inland more to Fez or even Casablanca which is very much worth it, but difficult to get to (I thought) by land.
Gibraltar- another must see. It’s this strange little island between Spain and Morocco with so much history it blows your mind. Most fun part of it is that it’s still under English rule- and very, very much feels like this tiny little British town in the heart of Costa del sol (but with wild monkeys running around everywhere- difficult to explain, but exactly what makes it so wonderful).
I stayed at a seriously wonderful hotel… let me do some digging to see if I can find the name of it for you.

Sweeet, just found an old email with our hotel in it. Here’s where we stayed for 10 days and it was fabulous!

@buffy: Thanks, Buffy! I will definitely check out all of those locations while we are doing our trip research. I did hear that Tangiers was disappointing. And Alhambra is definitely on my list of must-see places!
