I don’t know what the status of the country will be next year when you honeymoon, but the country is currently extremely unstable, politically. There is also a ban on alcohol in some areas due to prominent religious beliefs. The country is currently bleeding tourism as a result. Personally, I wouldn’t want to visit until they have their shit together, which won’t necessarily be next year.

We are thinking about the maldives also. The political issue isn’t a problem when traveling to an island directly from the airport (as far as i can find).

We got engaged in the Maldives in December last year! Definitely considering going back for our honeymoon. The alcohol ban doesn’t apply to resorts (obv) and the country and its people thrive off tourism – its their livelihood. The only concern is that they’re desappearing (literally) into the ocean as a result of rising water. OP, if you’re keen, PM me and I’ll send you all the details of our holiday. I did ALOT of research, and will gladly make some recommendations.

I would love to go there, it looks so beautiful! Whenever I have looked up flights and accomodations though it turned out to be like $10,000, is that generally what the going rate is to go to the Maldives or am I just looking at the most ridiculous places to stay!

the Meeru resort seems very nice and fairly affordable.
