@MsLesPaul:  Bar Harbor, Maine!  It should be beautiful that time of year!  Acadia National Park is on my bucket list for sure.

Edit: I live in Florida and would never tell anyone to visit here from June until late September.  The heat and humidity is awful, even for us natives (fifth generation Floridian here.)  The best time to come to Florida is late September through early November.

Williamsburg is really lovely, but it doesn’t have a ton to do. I consider it more of a weekend trip than anything longer.

DH and I went to Charleston, SC. Flights there were really affordable, as were hotel rooms. And in addition to museum/sight seeting type stuff, there are a billion awesome restaurants to try. And it’s a very walkable city.

We are going to Carmel in CA. The Winchester Castle is near there as well as San Francisco.

Edit: Oops missed the part about you driving; don’t mind me!

@Artificial-Sweetener:  Beautiful! We take weekend trips to Carmel all the time. One of my favorite places!

@MsLesPaul:  Have you considered California? August is a great time to visit, especially Northern California. The weather around here is warm but not unbearable, especially if you stick to the valleys and coastal areas. There is always Yosemite too!

Been to Williamsburg it was really great and very interesting but I agree with the PP as it is more of a weekend trip thing and not a lengthy destination pick.

Maine is great in August. If you love museums and history, you can’t beat Boston.

I’ve been to Williamsburg in the summer and it was so miserably hot. I just remember feeling so bad for those poor people in colonial dress!

If you’re willing to fly, Jackson Hole would be a great place for a honeymoon.

@MsLesPaul:  If the West Coast is an option, San Francisco with a few nights in the wine country is hands down my recommendation.  San Fran is beautiful and then you travel out into the wine country for wine tastings and rolling green hills.  It’s the most beautiful place in the continental U.S.

I just noticed the date since others were talking weather…and I take back Charleston and especially Williamsburg. Williamsburg is incredibly swampy in the summer. Maine sounds much better to me (but I HATE heat)
