jrae05:  Have you ever been on a cruise?  It’s great!  Best bang for your buck b/c your transportation, accomodations and food are all wrapped into one.  I know Royal Caribbean has a ship out of Galveston I believe.  You can get really great last minute deals, too.

jrae05:  I second a cruise Norwegian has them leaving out of Huston. Also you can make “cruise payments” so you don’t have to fork over a huge chuck on change off the bat just $250 down to start. FI and I love cruises for their affordability

this was the BEST bang for our buck we could find. its a camper, but its amazing…and beautiful…and relaxing. right on the water in key largo (florida keys) for $85 per night…we flew from charlotte, nc to miami, fl and rented a jeep. we spent a grand total (for 7 days) including airfare, lodging, car rental, food, and entertainment right around $2200, so i’d say you could definitely pull off $2000 for 4 days. it was the most amazing vacation…we were free to do whatever we wanted whenever we wanted and had just the best time. sites like airbnb.com and vrbo.com give you good options for affordable accommodations just about ANYWHERE!

jrae05:  Have you considered Cancun? It’s not too far from you,and a 4 day trip would cost about $700/person.

Go on travelocity and search vacation packages for Cancun or Playa Del Carmen. You might also consider somewhere in Florida. I was just in Destin and it is beautiful.

jrae05:  If you’re thinking beach and all-inclusive with really good food, I’d go with Fiesta Americana Condesa in Cancun. My now DH and I went there a year ago on vacation for 4 days and it was amazing. I can’t remember if we used bookit.com or cheapcarribean.com. Oh, and if you tell them it’s your honeymoon, I’m pretty sure you’ll get an upgrade. We booked a regular room but for upgraded to an oceanfront with a balcony without asking (it wasn’t our honeymoon). I think we paid about $2000 all in for both of us to with flights and transfers from NYC, so your trip will probably be cheaper.

I too have stayed at the Fiesta Americana Condesa in Cancun and concur it is great. I’ve also stayed at the RIU Cancun and found the quality of both to be good and pretty similar. I did not like how the pool area at RIU Cancun shaded over early in the day due to building angles so I would choose the Fiesta over the RIU. Both trips I think were around $2,600 with flight and hotel (all inclusive) for about a week. You should be able to do 4 days for around $2,000 depending on the dates.  You will want to factor in some money for at least one excursion though I would think see some ruins or go out on a boat, eat off the resort one day, go to a bar, that kind of thing.
