Fiance & I were chatting last night about the honeymoon (yay!) and we nailed down what we want, now to find it! I thought the super helpful bees might be able to offer us some suggestions, so here’s what were looking at for our end of July2013 honeymoon:
-MUST be all-inclusve & adults only
-MUST be on the beach on the carribbean/Mexico (we’re loose on mexico, but live in CA so it seemed the easiest destination & we’ve heard great reviews from friends)
-MUST be relaxing and not crowded
We are looking for something with private cabanas/huts/bungalows preferably on the beach as well. I saw some place a while back (before we were even thinking about this) that I thought was on Isla Mujeres near Cancun that had private bungalows that opened out into private rocky coves… But no luck locating it now… Basically we’re looking to stay out of the hustle & bustle, away from the crowds but still with the all-inclusve amenities (snorkeling, parasailing, drinks, watersports, etc.). Personally i was hoping for something with a little more landscape dynamic than just a white beach- we enjoy exploring those but also rocky stretches & tidepools as well. We like that isla mujeres is near cancun and the riviera but still private- any recommendations there or anywhere else?

We didn’t stay at this place, but we happened upon it when we were in Costa Rica and I’ve always thought this would be the perfect place for a romantic honeymoon. This doesn’t meet your first criteria (all-inclusive/adults only), but the hotel is definitely away from the hustle and bustle and its suites are very private – some of the rooms even have private plunge pools. It has the most spectacular views I’ve ever seen, access to a private beach, and is still near many of the attractions in Costa Rica like waterfalls, zip-lining, national parks, etc. The food in Costa Rica was fabulous at every single restaurant we visited (including the restaurant at this hotel), my friend once asked if they were putting drugs in it because it was the best food she’d ever eaten 🙂

My sister in law and her husband went here for their honeymoon this past October:
They LOVED it! I believe it is adults only. It is definitely all inclusive. They did not get to spend their entire honeymmon there because at the end of October last year there was a hurricane and they had to leave early, but I don’t imagine you will have a hurricane in July 🙂 Hope this helps!
Also, if I could suggest where I went, it was is Riviera Maya, which is not too far from Isla Mujeres. We stayed at the Iberostar Grand Hotel Paraiso. It was adults only and all inclusive. Our honeymoon was about 3 weeks ago and we were so surprised how it felt as if there weren’t a lot of people there the whole time! We really enjoyed ourselves. If you are interested, I can put up another post with some pictures of the resort. Happy planning!

@megan1009: I second Excellence. We were going to book there for a trip this past summer but found Secrets The Vine. A very good gf & her husband honeymooned at Excellence & loved it so much they just went back for their 5 year anniversary.
