We met with the travel agent this morning and this is what we have narrowed down to:

Hawaii - hopping among a couple different islands. We would be travelling to 4 star hotels from Boston to Maui staying at the Hilton, to Oahu staying at the Sheraton to Maui staying at the Westin Resort. They are all the basic rooms with minimal views and car rentals. This came to about $5,000. We would be gone for 10 days. This is out of our price range and we would probably have to come down to about 8 days and not do a car rental the whole time and down grade a hotel or something.

Riviera Maya - there are several all-inclusive choices here including but not limited to: 8 nights at the Valentin Imperial Maya with an upgraded room with jacuzzi! We would be able to see Mayan ruins, visit Cozumel and spend lots of time at swim up bars. The total for this would be approximately $3500 - including airfare, food, alcohol, some excursions, $200 toward spa treatments and an upgraded room as I mentioned. Did I mention adults only? so good!

8 nights at the Now Jade in the Riviera Maya which is also an all-inclusive. With an upgraded room it would be about $2900 for 8 days. Definitely affordable. It is still a 4 1/2 star hotel which is amazing and we could still do the same excursions as the Valentin.

Cruise to the Carribbean on the Oasis via Royal Carribbean Cruiseline. The cruise would cost about $3000 with a balcony and then airfare to florida on top of that. This obviously does not include excursion costs or alcohol. It is a 7 night cruise.

Would would you all choose? Help us pick! Are we missing something in this price range that we should really consider? I could really use some feedback especially from people who have visited these places!!!

Well, the only place I've been is on the Oasis Cruise, that was our honeymoon, and it was great! We did the balcony, and it was worth it, I loved waking up and going outside while my hubby got to have some more sleep. If you have any questions about it, feel free to PM me!

I've been to the Mayan Riviera, and stayed at the Grand Sunset Princess (or Grand Riviera Princess - they are two halves of the same hotel).  I was really happy each time.  THe last visit we upgraded to "platinum" and got an ocean view room.  It's a 5* hotel, and seemed to be a really good price.  I'd suggest checking that out as well :)

    Our view from our balcony:

It cost approximately $1700 CAD per person - flying from Vancouver

I think the Mexico trip is the best bang for your buck, plus by the way you wrote about it you sound pretty excited about that idea.

We did California for our honeymoon on about $3000, spending a few days in each Napa, San Francisco, and San Diego.  We really loved the Napa part and would definitely spend more time there with maybe a 1 or 2 day excursion to San Francisco if we did it over again.

Thanks tealea - We will have to check that out! Was that in Cancun or the Riviera Maya?

Soonerpsych - We want to get out of the contiguous US but I want to go to CA someday. It looks like it would be a lot of fun!

We stayed at Valentin Imperial Maya and could not have been happier! The whole resort was so clean and the staff was wonderful. Also, the food was great! I could go on and on... We received a free upgrade on our room as well. When we were there, we went on an excursion that included Tulum, a zip line, rappeling, and a cenote snorkeling trip for around $100 per person.

All those options sound great, but I'd pick the one with the in-room jacuzzi. We've always had great fun with this :)

@afuturemrsl: Its in the Mayan Riviera, maybe 30 minutes south of Cancun?  Its about 10 minutes north of Playa Del Carmen.

@futuremrsl - We went the first week of June. The weather was beautiful (no rain  at all) but it was also very hot! There are 2 swim up bars in the pool though, so it was easy to cool off! If you have any other questions, just ask! We are actually thinking of going back this January!

We just got back from the Valentin Imperial Maya on Saturday night.  The resort was great.  Beautiful water, great service and amazing rooms!  We did a Tulum tour, which was great as well (ask for Jorge from Maya Discovery as a guide!).

We did 6 nights, flights and airport transfers from CheapCaribbean.com for about $2400.  Tours (Tulum and a bus ride to and from Playa Del Carmen) totaled $154, and we did a couples massage special for $90.

We can't stop raving about the place!

There truly is NO place like Hawaii, but here is why I voted against it:

    1. Hawaii is really expensive, so if it is already out of your price range, you probably won't enjoy the expense of meals, drinks, excursions, etc. and you want to be able to splurge on your honeymoon!
    2. Hawaii is really far from Boston, so if you have to cut your trip to 8 days, you will spend a good amount of time traveling, and I am not sure an 8-day trip is worth it.
    3. While Maui is fantastic (as is Kauai - oh, Kauai!), Oahu is just, so, NOT.

It sounds like going to Mexico would give you everything you need on budget - fantastic all-inclusive hotels, lots of upgrades, a luxurious experience... that is exactly how I wanted to feel on my honeymoon.
