    Spain and surrounding areas.

Has anyone vacationed and/or had their honeymoon in these places? We both love them all and think South E. Asia would be best to do now before we have children since it seems to be more of an "adventure" trip.

    Ideas?

    Open to new options.

    :))

I haven't been to Bali, but I LOVE Thailand and Vietnam. Asia in general is awesome, and you're right, it's easier to go there pre-kids.

I have been to Turkey and Croatia, they are very beautiful places with golden beaches, good food too. Though I haven't been anywhere else on your list. Why not check out reviews on trip adviser?

I voted Thailand and Bali because I love Thailand and I'd love to go to Bali. That said, FI and I went to Turkey last October and the beaches were gorgeous, the people friendly and (even in our all-inclusive resort) the food gorgeous.

My favorite place in the world is Thailand.  No lie.  I've been twice and am hoping to go back again maybe next year.  There's so many options when there.  And when you are there, everything is fairly cheap.

    I definitely recommend it.

I've also been to Turkey, and spent a day in Split, Croatia, and done Spain.  Thailand still wins for me.

Definately go to Bali. Just went there in September and absolutely loved it. I've also been to Thailand and it's a great place for a honeymoon. If you decide on this trip PM me and I can give you some details of where to go.

In Thailand I went to (and the things I did there):

Bangkok: Kao San Road, Night Market, Day trip to Tiger caves, elephant ride, bamboo rafting, Ayutthaya

Chang Mai: Elephant reserve, Night market, Night Zoo (don't go), Cooking class (highly recommend), Long Neck village visit (this was a bit weird)

Krabi (Ao Nang): Rock climbing, beach, boat tour (snorkeling)

    Phuket: beach, kayaking, snorkeling

It's all I can remember right now.  But I was only there for 3 weeks in total.  You can get tons of options.

Here's where I also mention that my purse was stolen on my last day in Thailand...and I still love Thailand!

I think November for weather should be fine.  I'm pretty sure the rainy season ends in October.  I went in December both times, the weather was amazing.

I don't think you can go wrong with your choices.  Of the options I've only been toSpain and loved it!  I think an "adventure" trip is awesome.  Why go to another country if your not going to explore?

Where's the option for "all of the above"?  :-P

I would do Turkey/Croatia or Thailand/Bali before Spain, but that's just me.  I would just look at general weather patterns during the time of year you'd go and prices and stuff to decide after that.  Both places are ones we looked at for ours.  :)

Thailand, 100%. You can go from one extreme to another there. You can have a day of total relaxation and pampering on the beach to having a day of wild adventure and crazy antics. You can find parties, tourist hot spots, local spa retreats, amazing street food, top notch restaurants... Thailand has it all.

You're essentially guaranteed to make some amazing memories no matter what you pick, but Thailand is my vote for sure.

Thailand, esp for a November trip; Spain and Turkey will both be cool or even cold that time of year, and alot of the tourist spots will be deserted (unless you stick with big cities).

Around how much do hotel restorts cost?

Ive heard it is cheap to stay in bungalows on the beach. Do most towns have these?

Is the Thai food like here? (Los Angeles)

Forgot to add we've been to Thailand before and loved most of it. We didn't like Bangkok (felt like we were always being ripped off, busy and dirty etc.) but we loved the islands. Might be nice to do before you have kids, then you won't have to be worried so much about where to eat etc.

All those places would be great honeymoon destination.

I been to Thailand and Bali. I love Thailand (beautiful beaches, awesome food, and friendly people) but don't really care for Bali (constantly harassed by people asking to be our taxi drivers or provide service, also we didn't like Baliness food).

I have not been to Spain but always wanted to go because I heard the food and architures are amazing there

@ReyDar64: Food in Thailand is similar to Thai food in Los Angeles but better and cheaper.

As for resort, depend on how luxurious you want. The price can go from couple dollars to thousands per night.

For example, I stayed in one beach bungalow (could see the beach from my little hut because it's only 30 feet away) and it cost me $10/night (cheaper than getting a seafood feast). My friends went there for honeymoon but stay in a nice luxurious resort, they said it cost them around $300 per night

Special Sundae is going on an amazing honeymoon to Thailand in April. They are staying in some AMAZING hotels, and I think it's costing a grand total of £2k (around $3k) pp for over 3 weeks. They're having 5* hotels all the way, including a week in a STUNNING private villa with amazing views and private pool. I'll contact her and see if she can give you some info.

    Hey,

We've got 2 weeks of the hotels and the flights booked for £2k each. We're allowing another £1k each for the other week and a bit and internal flights.

So far we've booked to fly Glasgow-Dubai-Singapore with Emirates. Then staying at the Shangri La Singapore 5* hotel for five nights.

Honeymoon Options: Thailand & Bali; Turkey & Croatia or : wedding honeymoon turkey bali thailand exotic Shangri La Hotel Interior

Honeymoon Options: Thailand & Bali; Turkey & Croatia or : wedding honeymoon turkey bali thailand exotic Shangri La Hotel Exterior

Then we're making our way to Kuala Lumpur and will be booking a hotel for a couple of nights to go and make a pilgrimage to Sepang F1 circuit. (That's not included in the £2kpp.)

Then we're flying to Penang to spend three days there and Langkawi.

From Langkawi, we're taking a speed-boat to Koh Lipe in Thailand and staying three nights at the Serendipity resort in their honeymoon suite (£135 per room per night).

Honeymoon Options: Thailand & Bali; Turkey & Croatia or : wedding honeymoon turkey bali thailand exotic Ko Lipe

Honeymoon Options: Thailand & Bali; Turkey & Croatia or : wedding honeymoon turkey bali thailand exotic The Big Lebowski Ko Lipe

From there we're making our own way to Hua Hin to rejoin our official itinerary.

We're spending a whole week in a private pool villa at the Six Senses Hideaway Spa Resort. It's meant to be one of the best spa resorts in Asia (and that's really saying something!) We get our own private butler as well as a swimming pool, outdoor dining room, bath in a lily pond and a spa treatment area (in the room).

Honeymoon Options: Thailand & Bali; Turkey & Croatia or : wedding honeymoon turkey bali thailand exotic Pool Villa Exterior

Honeymoon Options: Thailand & Bali; Turkey & Croatia or : wedding honeymoon turkey bali thailand exotic Six Senses Restaurant

Then we'll be picked up by a chauffeur and driven to the Royal Orchid Sheraton hotel in Bangkok.

Honeymoon Options: Thailand & Bali; Turkey & Croatia or : wedding honeymoon turkey bali thailand exotic Bangkok Royal Orchid Sheraton

Honeymoon Options: Thailand & Bali; Turkey & Croatia or : wedding honeymoon turkey bali thailand exotic Bangkok Royal Orchid Sheraton 2

Honeymoon Options: Thailand & Bali; Turkey & Croatia or : wedding honeymoon turkey bali thailand exotic Night View Of Bangkok

Then we are once again chauffeured to the airport and flown home with Emirates: Bangkok-Dubai-Glasgow.

We're away 25 nights and it's going to be £6-7k total (including spending money).

I think our budget will be around 4k for around 20 nights. I dont mind the beach bungalow thing but also would like a few nights in luxury!

@ReyDar64: I figured out the basics on my own and then took the travel agent's advice on which hotels to book. We've booked with Kuoni through Going Places.

We probably could've done it a lot cheaper than we've done it, but I fell for the Hua Hin hotel and couldn't get it out of my mind.

Definitely Thailand & Bali! Croatia and Turkey will be too cold for beach stuff by November (September would be the latest I would go). I actually think that a trip to Croatia is totally feasible with kids, but then I went with my parents all the time as a kid since we lived a few hours away.

@ReyDar64: Sorry, I don't remember the name of the place or have pictures of the place (since it was very basic). I was backpacking through Thailand and didn't made reservation. Just showed up, asked for the rate and negotiated/book the room. The bungalows was on Koh Phangan (It's more of a backpacker island).

I've been everywhere mentioned except for Bali, and my vote was for Croatia and Turkey.  Croatis is one of the most amazing places I have been, and it's only a matter of time before tourism takes it over, so I would take advantage of that and go there.  The beaches are insanely beautiful, the food is fantastic, and it's just overall amazing. You can also do a side trip to Montenegro, which is just incredible.

I've been to Bali once in late October, FI twice.  We loved it there so much that we're having our wedding there!  Been to Bangkok only for 3 days on a stopover/layover from Bali.  Both were really exotic and awesome to me.  Yes, you're going to run into hawkers, but they aren't as aggressive as I've seen elsewhere (like in Jamaica, for instance).  I would recommend NOT staying in the tourist area (Kuta--think college Spring Break!) and try to get off the beaten path.  It will be at the end of the dry season very beginning of rainny season.  We were in Bali for a week and it rained on us a couple of times, but luckily at night, or when we were in the pool!  It was heavy rain, but like a lot of tropical locations, it passes through pretty quickly.  You'll still be able to enjoy the sun and log in some beach time.

Can't speak for Croatia or Turkey, but I've heard they are beautiful as well.

I recently came back from Spain (been to Madrid, Barcelona, and around Andalucia).  If you're trying to go for a great trip before you have kids, I would recommend NOT doing Spain.  Don't get me wrong, I LOVED it there and would totally go back (loved the food there)!  But I think it's the most kid-friendly place of your chosen locations so you could totally do Spain/Europe after you have kids.

@ReyDar64: I wish I did!  Unfortunately, FI's hard drive crashed while on our trip and he was unable to recover most of the photos I had downloaded and had already deleted off my camera. :(

What kinds of things would you want to do there?  And what kind of accommodations are you looking for?

Kuta is "important" if you wanna do nightlife and shopping as it's really the main area.  We moved around for the week.  The road from Kuta blends into and becomes Legian, which then turns into Seminyak and then it turns into Canggu.  I doubt by now there is much separation between the villages.  The further north you go away from Kuta along that road, the quieter, more upscale it gets.  We stayed in Legian a night, but our stay in Seminyak was really nice.  We were also in Nusa Dua/Benoa but I wouldn't go back because it's just not my thing--a lot of high-end resorts lined up right next to each other, not much to do/see outside of the hotels.  Can't really walk around.  But, the bay down there is popular for water and jet skis.

We also traveled down to Uluwatu temple on the west side of the Bukit peninsula which was really nice, but also full of beautifully landscaped beach front huge hotels which outside of, there's not much else to do (except hang out on the beach I guess).

Ubud is the cultural center of the island.  Lots of arts and crafts there, dance performances, jungle, etc.  I believe it's where Eat, Pray, Love was filmed.  Different atmosphere than along the coast.  We only drove through there, but it seemed nice.

Haven't been on the north side of the lsland yet. More inland you could go hiking, visit the volcano, white water rafting. You could also take a ferry to one of the smaller islands.  FI went to Nusa Lebongan to surf once and said it was super quiet and really peaceful.  A friend took a boat ride to snorkel and dive somewhere. Lombok is also pretty quiet, too and I heard relatively untouched compared to Bali (probaby what Bali was 10 years ago), but I haven't been there yet.

One thing to note is that there is a lot of Indonesian food served there.  I guess they just assume people would prefer it.  I'm not a big fan of Indonesian food to be honest (Nasi Goreng or Mie Goreng), but Balinesian food is different--a little more South East Asian/Indian influence with lots of different spices.  So I recommend to look out for that.

What really got me was the exoticness of the Hindu society.  There are offerings everywhere!  Flower petals scattered along the roads, the burning smell of incense everywhere, temple tops peaking above everyone's fences.  Oh, and there are spas everywhere.  An hour long massage in your room for about $12.00.  You should do that in Thailand, too (although, if you've never had a Thai massage, you should be prepared for a workout!).

Hope I'm not hyping it up too much. :)

No I love the hype, as Im sitting here at work I am imagining the places and things you are describing!

Around how much were hotel stays per night?

How Far is lombok from Bali? Is it accessable by boat?

How long do you think is sufficient in Bali? We are thinking of doing 3 weeks total. 2 in TL and one in Bali and or are still open to other neighboring optoins.

Fiance and I went to Croatia last year, and it was absolutely gorgeous. The sea is so blue, it doesn't even look real. And Turkey is supposed to be really fun, with a lot of history and culture.
