Oh my gosh, just stunning! I love that infinity pool overlooking the beach. Heaven. How was the food?
@bakerella: It was AMAZING, which I was not expecting (I figured that with a setting so beautiful, they wouldn't put much effort into the food). It was a lot of fresh seafood, which makes sense since it's an island, and you could basically request what you wanted and if they could catch it, you could eat it for dinner/lunch. It was also more high end than I thought it would be, which was nice, although certainly not necessary. And everything was included, which is always nice :)
Slice of heaven. What was the resort called? I'd like to put it in my vacations bookmarks ;)
Thou shall not covet another Bee's honeymoon experience ::repeats to self::
This is so beautiful. Im so glad you are helping to highlight what Africa has to offer.
Is that the hut you guys stayed in? Im so jelly.
@bakerella: Azura Lodge http://www.azura-retreats.com/ Yayyy I would love it if someone else went somewhere we had stayed! :)
@Aubergold: Haha I've definitely coveted other Bees' honeymoons as well (umm Mrs. Lobster's? I DIE!). That hut is actually our "sala" which is basically a covered...hut, lol, on the beach where we could read, sleep, eat, etc :)
Thank you! Bookmarked! I'd say there's a 0.2% chance we'll ever get there, but it's nice to drool over every now and then ;)
@hilsy85: I just annoyed the crap out of FI with all of the pictures from your honeymoon. I told him how absolutely in love with it I am and he feels the same way (I pretty much had him sold at the infinity pool and private beach). I think we may look into this instead of our original honeymoon plan!
@UpstateCait: Yay! Go for it :) I definitely agree that the private infinity pool/beach area is a huge plus--we felt like we were on our "own" island :)
Wow Beautiful!!! I just sent that link to my FI! I don't want to be rude, so you totally don't have to respond. But about how much per night do those suites go for? We have a pretty decent budget to play with but I don't want to get too carried away with this website!
oops nevermind! Found it on the website (really should read before asking- I just thought this place was so amazing that I skipped over logic all together!!!) Anyway congrats! I just read all your recaps and this looks like a once in a lifetime experience!
@FallBzz: It really was amazing. Definitely not cheap, but we really enjoyed ourselves so much that it was worth it--and we probably won't be able to take another 2 week vacation for a decade, so we wanted to make this one worth it!
@hilsy85: Well thanks so much for sharing all these recaps with the boards! It really gives me a lot to think about. Thanks again!

Mozambique/Benguerra Island was the last stop on our honeymoon. We spent 6 nights there and it was much needed. We were exhausted from running around on the more active parts of our honeymoon, and desperately just needed some old fashioned R&R (along with some delicious drinks and lots of sunshine). We had to take a helicopter to get to Benguerra Island. I've never been in one before, but it was actually really fun!
Our room was amazing--we actually ended up being in our room a lot, and can you blame us when it looked like this:
and this was our backyard:
We ate breakfast on our own private stretch of beach every morning:
We were pretty active--we went snorkelling, horse back riding, and we visited pansy island, which is basically a huge sandbar where pansy shells (also known as sand dollars) wash up. We ate lunch there and had the whole "island" to ourselves. However, as we left, we turned around and watched it disappear under the waves again.
I'll just end with some of my favorite pics from Mozambique--Benguerra Island is such a beautiful place and we are so happy we had the opportunity to go!
please feel free to PM me if you're considering visiting any of these places. I'd be more than happy to share whatever information I have :)
