We set up a honeymoon registry through our resort. The actual registry though is run by HoneymoonWishes. You’ll get a mixed response on this, but do what is right for you guys. HoneymoonWishes offers you the option to charge the 7% “fee” to your guest, or to have it taken out of the total amount they gift to you. So if you register for a $150.00 dinner on the beach…either you will receive $140.00ish of your gift after the fee is taken off…OR…your guest will pay $160.00ish dollars (total of gift plus fee).

I like honeymoon registries so long as you are registering for sentimental things (like dinner, massages or day trips) and not trying to get your flights or hotels paid for. Most people will tell you they prefer to gift cash because then there is no fee involved, but if you want people to feel like they have given you something (and made the gift of cash seem more personal) then it’s a good way to go!

Correct – in most cases, if you use a generic honeymoon registry, the company you go through is going to cut you a check and it becomes your responsibility to follow-through on using that money for its intended purpose.

The exeception to that is when resorts (like mine) offer the registry through their website. If you register for something that the resort will ultimately “gift” to you (like a massage or a dinner) then the money remains with the resort as a credit and they will take care of it for you. If you book something that the resort doesn’t offer but they outsource (like ziplining for instance)…you will get a check from the registry site and again, have to follow-through on using the money for its intended purpose.

@X0JLYNN03:  Exactly right – that’s why we did it through our resort too. We aren’t looking for the cash, we legit just want to get there and get treated to a few extras while on vacation! 🙂 Happy Planning!
