Well I’ve only done Hawaii between the two, and I’ve gone a few times, as have most of us that live on the West  coast. My general thought about honeymoons is if you can afford it, you should take the big trip. And I know for east coasters Hawaii is definitely a prety big trip. Plus it’s not like it’s cheap to stay eat and play there! So to me it depends on what your liklihood is of going to St Lucia or Hawaii in the future for a regular vacation?

We took the opportunity of our honeymoon to go all the way to Fiji and it was worth every penny and hour sitting in coach 🙂

Also in Hawaii you will NEVER be bored, there is SO much to do on both Kauai and the Big Island, and of course it’s absolutely beautiful.

@Jrose34:  We went to St. lucia for our honeymoon and loved every second…actually have plans to go back. We never felt in danger, everyone was super super nice. In reference to the people, we got bothered once and we told them we were not interested (they were selling excursions) and they left us alone…and they were super friendly anyways. Did not hastle one bit. If you want more information let me know!! I would be happy to share some tips 🙂

i would say hawaii.  i’m an east coaster also.

st lucia seems like a place i would be able to get to more easily.  i might only have one opportunity to go to hawaii.

also, i’ve been to other islands in the carribbean.  so the appeal of hawaii for me is greater.

our honeymoon choice was between italy and hawaii, we chose italy for 12 days.

@Jrose34:  Either would be fabulous, but considering logistics and price, I’d go with St. Lucia!

@Jrose34:  we actually did stay at Sandals Grande and loved it!! If i could afford Jade mountain, we totally would have but yeah not in the budget. My aunt stayed at Body Holiday and said it was an older crowd, so it just depends on what you are looking for.

We did about half and half. We ventured out of the resort and a boat ride to visit the volcano/hot mud bath, went to this waterfall, and got to snorkel. We are not scuba certified but the snorkeling was to die for. That tour lasted all day and was a highlight of our trip.  We also took a jeep tour of the rainforest which was also neat because we got a different perspective of the island…which was amazing.

We stayed on resort for meals becuase the food was great, so I cannot offer much help there.  Here are some pictures of the resort. I have plenty more from excursions and other oarts of the resort if you would like as well. Let me know if you have any other questions, happy to help!!!

@Jrose34:  we had our honeymoon in St Lucia and it was amazing, I worried to start with because of what people were saying but non of it appeared to be true. We will be going back for sure and I can’t wait. There is so much to do and see! And the people were lovely they didn’t try to bother us at all. We nearly stayed at a Sandals Resort but then we wanted to explore and not feel confined to a holiday complex. We went to Anse Chastanet and will go back it was amazing! We had a room upgrade and honeymoon package. The staff made you feel special and nothing was too much trouble. It was just the best and worth the money.

@Jrose34:  we loved every second. They were so friendly, took amazing care of us. Everything was well organized and convenient. It was definitely a younger crowd, but we are 26 so we fit right in. We did not hang out much by the pool, that area was definitely more crowded, but took advantage of the beautiful Carribean.  If you do decide zsandals, do grande. One of the others beach is rocky/choppy and no good. Everyone from that resort would come to ours because the  beach is nice and the water is calm. the only thing we would have done differently is to take the helicopter shuttle instead of the shuttle transfer.

To @Jrose34: When are you going, is my first Question ?  If it is July… as per your WBee Profile’s listed Wedding Date, then I would offer up that St Lucia will be EXTREMELY Hot & Humid (it is a Tropical Island that is also a Rain Forest).  It is also Atlantic Hurricane Season… June 1st to November 30th… altho the majority of events happen in the months of August, September & October in the Caribbean.

Mr TTR & I have been to St Lucia… it is relatively safe country vs many other Caribbean destinations… so I would have no qualms going there (there are several Caribbean Islands I won’t go to, this isn’t one of them)

St Lucia isn’t a terribly wealthy country tho (2nd World) but it does ok for itself in a developing economy… hence WHY there are a lot of All-Inclusive Resorts here vs Hotels.

I would say that in the daytime hours you are pretty much ok here (just use your usual street smarts)… in the nighttime, I’d be a lot more cautious, and YES stay on the resorts.

Hawaii, as a State in the USA is going to be a lot more familiar… and clearly is a 1st World Destination.

The Pacific Hurricane Season starts earlier than the Atlantic one… beginning around Mid-May.  Hurricanes (called Cyclones) are not unheard of in the Hawaiian Islands, with the greatest number tending to occur in September & October.

Wikipedia – Hawaiian Hurricanes = http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Hawaii_hurricanes

Of these two Destinations, there is no right or wrong… it will come down to what you are willing to spend (airfare to Hawaii is going to be quite expensive as it is much farther) and what type of Honeymoon you are truly looking for.

Hawaii as a very comfortable Destination means you’ll have more at your fingertips that you can do on your own without worry… rent a car & go exploring etc… vs using organized tours etc.

Hope this helps,
