What’s your budget and what do you consider expensive?

Have you checked out cheapcaribbean.com? We booked an all-inclusive vacation at an adult-only resort in Punta Cana, DR through that site. You can compare tons of AI resorts in whaetver area(s) you choose. I think we ended up paying about $3000 including airfare for 5 nights (this was in January; probably cheaper in May/June).

Anyway, this was my only time staying at a resort like that, so I can’t compare it to one that allows children. I thought it was a very nice, relaxing experience, and the food was good. My only complaint, and I’ve heard this about Punta Cana in general, is that the ocean was too rough to swim in. We walked along the beach but swam in the pool only. If you want to relax and swim on the beach, I’d check out some other areas.

Eubiea03:  Yeah, we stayed at Excellence Punta Cana. It was beautiful, the rooms were clean and lovely, the food was great, the pool was super clean and gorgeous — overall it was a really nice place, and I would definitely recommend it, with the only caveat being the rough ocean (but again, I think that’s true of all of Punta Cana, at least at the time of year when we went).

Eubiea03:  I’ve been to Secrets Vallarta Bay in Puerto Vallarta and LOVED it. Every room is ocean view, the service was flawless. 7 sit down restaurants, 2 buffets, 24/7 room service, it was heaven. We want to go back again. Puerto Vallarta is such a cute town, so we got the relaxing experience at the resort but it was also perfectly safe to wander in and out of the resort to go shopping or for excursions. The sunset views from the lobby were spectacular, never seen such pretty sunsets. The only con is that the water isn’t a typical caribbean blue since it’s on the Pacific side of Mexico.

Antigua is also a great island, absolutely gorgeous water and there are plenty of activities if you want a break from the beach.  There are AI resorts on the island, not as many as Mexico/DR but that just gives it more of a charm. We stayed at Sandals but it was pretty pricey. IMO, the price tag of Sandals isn’t worth it. The service at Secrets was way way better.

We always read a ton of reviews and look at visitor pictures on TripAdvisor before booking anything, those photoshopped resort pictures aren’t always accurate.

Some of the sites we’ve used in the past to book vacations:

Applevacations.com

Cheapcaribbean.com

Bookit.com

Eubiea03:  Go to Aruba! We did 7 nights (breakfast included) and our total for the trip was about $5500, including excursions, hotel, airfare, dinners out every night, etc. We stayed at an adults only resort and it was AMAZING. We are going to go back for our one year anniversary in July 🙂

Monk6552:  We stayed at Bucuti and Tara. If you are thinking about Aruba, you HAVE to stay there. We are planning to go back for our one year anniversary this summer. It was the best vacation I’ve ever been on.

Eubiea03:  I think your best bet would be to narrow down if you want all incl vs not and an adult/couples resort vs not. Fiancé and I will both be 26 on the honeymoon in April/May next year and knew exactly what we wanted.

We wanted cancun as we have been there before and love how we can leabe the resort, know downtown off the back of our hands, the beaches are out of this world, fun nightlife (on and off the resort, etc).

At first we started looking at adults only – sun palace, and then high end resorte comparable – excellence playa m, el dorado’s, beach palace, love aqua, Hyatt zilara, etc. In the end adults only didn’t mean anything to Us. We wanted good food, good hotel, good beach, great nightlife, pool side activities, etc. We ended up booking the hard rock cancun for 10 nights for just over 6k in a diamond suite. We will also get a few extras due to our honeymoon. The pool is huge, the beach is gorgeous and the daytime and night time activities are awesome. We like to have a good time – music, games etc, and if we want “quiet” the diamond room comes with an adults only beach bed with a server.

I have done 6 all inclusive and honestly never notice kids. We considered doing sandals St. Lucia or Bahamas but it wasnt for us. If you’re looking for a quiet vaca all honeymooners etc.. Then go for it. But really figure out what you guys are looking for in a vaca 🙂
