My Fiance and I want to plan a beachy, relaxing and affordable ($3000) honeymoon. We are prone to mosquito and bug bites. I went to St Lucia one year and had to go to the ER because the bug bites swelled up the size of baseballs. I really don’t want that to happen on my honeymoon. We were thinking Hawaii but it is really expensive during July. Does anyone have suggestion on a nice place without getting bug bites?
I want to go to Costa Rica or Belize but just concern about being in the rainforest.

Bug bites can happen at any beach/tropical location as well as lakes/rivers etc. Its just nature. I suggest talking to a doctor and taking whatever they suggests along with you as well as tropical strenth insect repellant.

Wow, that’s scary! I had some bad reactions to bug bites in Italy, to the point that I covered them in bandages because I looked so scary, but I did okay in Punta Cana. My reaction doesn’t seem as extreme as yours though. Hope it works out!

I have been to cancun a couple of times and was good. I am not sure if there are place similar to that in Belize or Costa Rica.

- Wedding: March 2012 - Pelican Grand Beach Resort
You could go to the Florida Keys.

We are going to Costa Rica and staying at Oxygen Jungle Villas. The villas are glass so you can see out without getting bitten, and they’re air conditioned, although I don’t think we’ll be spending too much time inside.

I’m also very sensitive to bug bites (when I went to Korea a few years ago, my entire arm swelled up from bites). I’ve been to Paris and was bitten by mosquitos there as well, so I was also interested in a honeymoon that was bug-free. We ended up going on a 12-night cruise in the Mediterranean with stops in Italy, Turkey, and Greece. It’s not all beachy, but it’s pretty relaxing, and the best part is that you’re safe on the cruise ship by the time the bugs are out in full force. 🙂 I didn’t get a single bite!

Bermuda is actually the perfect place for a honeymoon. It’s absolutely gorgeous, you can drink he water, eat the food, pay in cash, and you will end up with no pesky bug bites! I’ve been there three times and loved it! (In contrast, I was eaten alive by insects in St. Maarten and St. John!)

We just got back from Mexico March 19-26th (the resort was between Cancun and Playa Del Carmen) and I saw:
one fruit fly
and that’s IT! There were about a million birds though, so maybe that’s why there were no bugs?
